Having some education, knowing how to communicate with your kids about social media and understanding what's appropriate for setting boundaries around usage. Elizabeth Smith | @aspiretooyxe | Co-Owner | Clinical Counsellor | Registered Social Worker
One day I had a talk with Brant from Joyne Marketplace about renting a shelf to sell a couple t-shirts. Seemed like a fun project. Then I had a few beers and chatted with Logan from Eleven03 who thought the project was cool. So, we collaborated on a couple t-shirt designs. Since those guys are basically rock stars they also gave us some music for our videos. 🖤 . . I had this idea for a photo shoot that involved genderless beings from another dimension, a place where racism, homophobia, and bulling didn't really exist. A place of celebration, creativity and harmony. Now you try explaining that to hair and make-up, shout out to Pinterest! 🖤 . . We were blessed to have Celene and her team at Revamp Salon Co. complete our vision with perfect brows, bangs and lips. Thank you. We also had the chance to work with Kristina and Christian from STRAY Model Management to complete the looks with styling for the gods. Slay mama, slay! Big thanks also to the models who brought great energy to the photo shoot Liam, Dianna and Sheridan. 🖤 . . So what is @socialmadelocal right? I had seen a documentary on Netflix talking about the He-Man toys and how they used a mini comic book to explain the story before they could afford a Saturday morning cartoon. Enter Zap Creative the creator of our 3.5x5 inch mini fashion magazine that explains the whole brand. Nailed it. But one last thing, where is this stuff going to live? I'm so thankful for the talented team at Saskatoon Makerspace who is putting together a 6-foot Instagram feed inspired shelving unit, complete with LED light box. 🖤 . . The moral of the story is don't go into Joyne looking to rent a shelf, because you will probably end up turning a small idea into something pretty incredible. What's next? Come find out March 27 when Joyne officially opens. #socialmadelocal 🖤

If Social Media existed when you were growing up, what would you tell your 12 year old self?
We are joined by Elizabeth Smith (Co-owner) BA, BSW, RSW and Gisele Plamondon BSW, RSW from @aspiretooyxe We hope that people come away from the event with more confidence in knowing how to manage the influence of social media with their children. We want parents to become the safest space for children to have conversation about the medium.
