Throw back from my 2010 season at wycombe Fc. Sessions planned out for Matt Ingram, Tom Heaton, Scott Shearer and Steve Arnold. What a group.
BE IN CONTROL OF YOUR GOALKEEPING MISTAKES Watched my son play rugby this week of which I still don’t get this sport. You throw me the ball and I have 8 blokes run at me and take my legs out (it’s basically a night out in southend). I must say though it really is a team sport which seems to be driven by pure determination. For the first time this weekend since leaving the pro game I decided to go to a match and ended up at Tottenham v CARDIFF. Loved watching World Cup winner Lloris as he just seems to calm and take it all in his stride. Also what was great to see was Neil Etheridge for CARDIFF who I had a season with him at Fulham. Was Neil was at Fulham we sent him to Bristol Rovers to go and play games. It’s amazing how he does things in a very similar way as he did when he was on loan 4/5 years ago but everything is quicker and he seems to see things faster. Got me thinking about this quite deeply on how we as goalkeepers seems to create the same habits and patterns in our game. For example I worked with a pro keeper when he was about 19 and he is now 25 and still makes the same mistakes when trying to make a block save. Alsos jumps and turns when going into a block which leaves him very narrow because his body twists and the forward will see his side and not the big frame of his chest. Also when he jumps it makes it a lot easier to score under his body. So after looking at this I suppose the habits that create effect things in your game is good but it’s the bad things that could cause I the issues. I do believe if you keep doing the same things you will get the same results and this for me has been proven by the pro keeper I see a few weeks ago. HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS ????? Can we change the way we train and even to the point of our daily routine. For me if something isn’t very effective with one of my goalkeepers then I will break the topic right down and start again (baby steps). If we take ownership of the are bad habits and work at them then we have every chance of making them more effective. I think the first thing is to make.......... for full blog .... https://www.facebook.com/100011637637193/posts/6189889451656

Over the moon that Marcus has made the England squad again. Great to see great people earning great things.
KEEP GOALKEEPING SIMPLE WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS DGUK BLOG OF THE WEEK So this training sessions have been all about the fine detail of clipping and driving the ball as a goalkeeper. Its really interesting when you film yourself doing this and slow the action down. I done this in about 4 sessions this week so far and its amazing how angled your ankle has to actually be when trying to get the ball off the floor. Most people and kids these days have a mobile phone which will have a camera on it. I would like everyone to try filming themselves clipping the ball and watch it back in slow motion and see what you notice. I really was amazed when you slow it down and see a close up of what your foot looks like when getting under the football. Phone storage this month is awful as I have done this session with around 8 goalkeepers this week so far. Extremely effective. Is was great to catch up with Marcus Bettinelli last week in the DGUK podcast. So pleased to see good goalkeepers moving up the football ladder. I must say Im really enjoying the podcasts and always look forward to the next one. I would like to hear any feed back on the podcast interns of you would like to hear either another pro or coach or etc….. So the next 4/5 weeks is going to be silly busy with a trip to Germany with my son for a tournament and then spain with the family, followed by a junior elite camp. Im adding into this junior elite camp how to set up set pieces as I have been watching matches last few weeks and there really is a lack of it from young goalkeepers. October camp is full up but the next junior elite camp is the 21st and 22nd Feb 2019. 12 places on the camp with now 8 remaining. After the junior elite we have Jersey and Guernsey camps which are 2 days camps each with a senior workshop in the evenings. The minute we get back I have the opening of the brand new DGUK weekly gk centre on the 2nd November 2109. So really bust times ahead and very excited about developing all these goalkeepers. GOALKEEPER TOOTH ACH WORSE THAN GIVING BIRTH ?? DGUK BLOG OF THE WEEK Planning seems to be the theme of the week for me this week as I have started putting lots of new things into place. A new DGUK goalkeeping centre is now ready to go with a launch night on the 2nd November at cheshunt football club 7pm-8pm. Match report is something I have wanted to do for a while now and they have been very popular with all you goalies and coaches. New date has been set for the Education Course which is a course to help educate goalkeepers and coaches in lots of different ways. Camp in Egypt has now been confirmed in term of dates and now starting to work on it. Its a real exciting time at the minute and can’t wait to meet loads more new goalkeepers across the world. The last podcast with 16 year old Alfie and his dad of which we spoke about how Alfies journey to fining a scholarship was going has really been a popular podcast. I think the reason to this is because a lot of popped can say they have been through this path way or even a pathway very similar. So update on Alfie has now been that he has been into another pro club and had great feed back and so the time will come very soon when a club does take him on a scholarship. I want to share this story with you but will not mention any names as I don’t feel it right to. I had a message from a 16 year old goalkeeper who is actually on his first year as a scholarship at a pro club. The message basically said that the training was very hard and enjoyable but he felt very home sick as he had to move away from home because of the travelling distances. Now in my time I have had quite a few of these messages asking for him and advise as it must be very hard moving away from home at such a young age. So my opinion on this is that you need to stay focused on why your there and it really could be a very short period in your life that you are away from home. Keep looking back at the time when you was working so hard to get to the point that you are at now and keep looking at them targets that you have set moving forward.
