Thank you to all of you who have prayed for me and my family as we abruptly dropped off the face of social media. We have spent this week in Mexico, unplugging and reconnecting as a family. Social media has offered me an opportunity to connect with so many people with messages of encouragement, health, wellness and joy. Arguably, these are all good things. But what social media also offered me was an opportunity to promote myself for advancement, gain notoriety and vain validation through likes, comments and praise. It also offered me a portal to create idols, become deceitful and even hide destructive behaviors from others, including my husband, family and friends. I’ve been ignoring this obsession and justifying it as something I have needed for business and to stay socially connected. In a slow and sneaky way, it had become a time consuming addiction that vastly distorted my priorities, fed my self-indulgence and skewed my true identity. It was a way for me to curate this perfect representation of a life to be coveted, staying busy enough to never have to examine the true state of my heart and admit that I needed to change. All the while, my husband and kids were getting far less than what they deserved of my attention, but I continued to invest into creating my reality around a facade. Since my husband and I have stepped away from our involvement in social media, we are so free. Our attention and affection are for each other and our patience and love for our kids has improved greatly. We are experiencing miraculous and unexplainable restoration. We are praising God for opening our eyes to the fact that we need to be radically on guard to protect our minds and hearts in our marriage and as a family moving forward. At this time, we do not know what our involvement will be on social media, but we can confidently say this: our lives are more rich and abundant in joy, fulfillment, security and we are more in love than ever before. We are less distracted, more present and now operating in the way God has intended us to, serving each other with the tenderness and grace of Christ. “..as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Do photos like these ever make you roll your eyes and think 🙄that can't be real.. if those kids are that happy eating raw spinach I'm doing something wrong. You're right, it wasn't really real.. all staged. Do you think those veins in my husband's arms were screaming YES, please let's do a fake photoshoot in the kitchen that makes us look so happy and perfect! (no). He only does it because he loves me and I make him. 😂 Because the REAL truth is, we're not perfect and neither is anyone else you follow on this fun little app. We have to keep in mind that this is highlights.. just MOMENTS that happened to be captured. The most important part--whether your photos are professional, blurry iPhone pics or anything in between, is that we are authentic. Authenticity trumps perfection so I'll leave you with this--what you don't see in this image is my housekeeper walking in and saying no offense, your house smells like diapers. How's that for real life? #micdrop 🎤
