The strive for marriage equality has never been about the acceptance in your church or the chance to have lavish wedding parties. It's for partners to be seen equal by civil institutions, whether it's hospital visiting rights, or access to partner's superannuation after becoming widowed, or families seen as legitimate entities by adoption agencies, academic institutions, and government offices. Only when people are seen as equals would the layers of biases, bullying, and discrimination start to disappear. Good job, Australia. - Andrei Diamante, 2017
