Life has been busy and weird and wonderful lately... I haven’t posted in weeks, even tho I’ve been reading a lot of zines and making a lot of things. On Friday, I leave for Phoenix to table at @phxzinefest; while I’m so excited, I have so much left to do before then (and so many zines left to staple!) I’ve never been to the southwest before, and I can’t wait to see the desert. 🌵☀️ By sheer coincidence, a few weeks ago, @wastedinkzinedistro (a zine distro outta Phoenix) held a giveaway to celebrate their anniversary and I won! I haven’t gotten a chance to read what I won, but the titles they picked out for me are pretty spot on: cats, livejournal memories, sad girl thoughts. I’ll probably read em on the plane, then pick up some more zines from Wasted Ink on Saturday (in addition to my fest haul!) 😉
I finally learned how to use a risograph! Not knowing my way around a duplicator always sorta felt like a major gap in my zine-making knowledge, so when Oddities announced an After Hours Riso Workshop, I jumped at the chance and signed up. It was great! We learned how the machine works with both cut-n-paste and digital files, a little bit of history, then set off creating our own riso prints (I put together a cover for the new issue of Pocci.)
I finally, finally, FINALLY got my hands on a copy of Julia Eff's skincare primer Are You There Brian? It's Me, Moisturizer. As with all their zines, it is bewitching and clever, and will make you snort with laughter. Have you ever wanted to shave off both your eyebrows and paint your face like a ghoul? Of course you have! Julia is here to show you how to do it properly, and with aplomb. 🖤 Pick up this zine via crapandemic on storenvy. 🖤 Sidenote: I really wish Julia would turn their handwriting into a font. It is so nice!
