Celebrating Juneteenth today and every other day!!
Have you ever been treated unfairly because of the color of your skin? I have... Have you ever been called a (insert n-word) B$&!@ ? I have... Have you ever been labeled as a gang? I have... Have you ever had money thrown in your face? I have... Have you ever had someone to threaten to call the police on you? I have... Have you ever had to protest a business for racist practices? I have... You may think to yourself how can that happen to you. Unfortunately every black friend or colleague that you have has most likely faced some type of racism in their life. In my situation it didn’t matter that I have college degrees or that I am an educator. It didn’t matter that I am a Christian. It didn’t matter that I had a nice and clean appearance, etc. All that mattered was that my skin is black and for them that was a problem. Black people don’t have the privilege of not being discriminated against, hurt by the police, etc. What are some simple ways to fight against these types of racist actions? These are a few that I have been seeing a lot. Have conversations with your kids. Read diverse books. Follow people on social media who share antiracism content. Join in on protests in your city. Donating to organizations. Signing petitions. Comment on other ways and ideas and what You have committed to doing?
Got some sweet flowers from @haleymoconnor and @elementarynest because I loss my Grandaddy two weeks ago. This meant so much! Thank you!
I love this book for teaching students about peaceful protesting and leading to make a difference. Definitely worth a read for your students! #bookrecommendations
We are BLACK EDUCATORS! We don't tear down other Black Educators. We have felt the pain of being torn down, and we have decided we will be deliberate about building others! Our jobs as educators is so important! We get to alter the narrative! But it starts with us! As Kendrick Lamar once said: You gotta love yourself cause in this world, that's the realist love you will get. Supporting, Connecting & Nurturing each other; we're much stronger united! With all the negativity going on around us let's do something positive! ☀️Upload ONE picture of yourself...ONLY You. Then tag as many educators to do the same. Let's build each other up, instead of tearing ourselves down. 💛💛COPY and PASTE💛 I have tagged some amazing Black educators who I’ve learned SO much from! Give them a follow! @thedailyalphabet @enchantedkindergarden

Today I got to help my niece with her home activities via FaceTime. It feels great to be able to give her resources to help her continue to learn in this quarantine period. She is in kindergarten and doing my first grade activities!
I have changed this packet to free if it helps anyone in preparing for home learning. It is St. Patrick’s Day themed so it would be fun to do some themed activities. Link in profile! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/St-Patricks-Day-Activities-585335#show-price-update

We all know as teachers it is important to set high expectations for student behavior at the beginning of the year and throughout the year. My expectation read alouds are perfect for just that! They are editable too! #flyingintolearning #settingexpectations #studentbehavior Link in profile!

I love integrating literature with mathematics. I found this really cute book written by Danica McKeller better known as Winnie from Wonder Years. It helps students learn all the ways to make ten! #mathfun #making10
