• Matters of the heart. I've read a good number of diverse picture books to my students. Of course, I will read *more* and should. Absolutely. But I was thinking....how can I get more depth with my students? And I realized, sadly, I've never done an Author Study of a Black Author. Ugh. . The story behind the story is where I like to get. I love to read or hear about a person’s story. ❤️ One of my absolute favorite picture books is Goin' Someplace Special by Patricia McKissack. I've read this book for years. But as I dug deeper into Mrs. McKissack's life, my heart was full. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I ached...and I am giddy to share this amazing person, a Black Author, a Momma, an 8th Grade English Lit Teacher...with my students. And then...then will come her books. Takeaway: This is what I asked myself: What are your kiddos like? Background? What age? Then I asked: How can I add more depth to their schema?   • Planter Boxes 🌱 #bloom Happy Thursday!!! Here is the info, for those of you #DIYers who were wondering: . 1. Measured to see the L, W, and H the box needs to be. . 2. Built the outside frame first from 2x 4s. . 3. The faces are all plywood. This will shroud the frame. Screwed plywood to the frame. . 4. Screwed 1x4s vertically to the plywood to create the panel/shaker style look. . 5. Used lattice as the false bottoms for the plants to sit on (in the boxes). Swipe to see 👉🏼 The ferns (that we got @homedepot ) are still in pots because this will allow us to bring them inside when it gets cold. . 6. We left the back open so pests can’t find a new home. 🙏🏼 . 7. And of course, we painted them white. . And that, my friends, saved us a ton of money! You know when you are teaching something to your students and you can see the light bulb turn on, almost like a click? That was how I felt. Many lightbulbs turned on. But it's not over. Just like with our students. We don't stop teaching at just one lightbulb and they don't stop learning. It's a lifelong journey. I am a lifelong learner. So many lightbulbs still need to turn on.
