Here's a super easy sugar-free snack recipe that has protein, fiber and healthy fats to help you skip the afternoon slump 😊.⠀ ⠀ BANANA-NUT OAT BARS:⠀ Ingredients:⠀ 🔹3-4 very ripe bananas⠀ 🔹2 cups gf oats⠀ 🔹1/2 cup @manitobaharvest hemp seeds⠀ 🔹1/4 cup almond butter (or any other nut/seed butter)⠀ 🔹1/2 cup chopped almonds⠀ 🔹1/2 tsp vanilla extract⠀ 🔹1/2 tsp cinnamon⠀ ⠀ Directions:⠀ 1. Preheat oven to 375F & grease an 8X13 inch tray with coconut oil.⠀ 2. Mash bananas in a bowl then add all other ingredients and mix well.⠀ 3. Spread the mixture evenly on the tray.⠀ 4. I want to introduce you to nice cream - ice cream made from JUST frozen bananas! Such a healthy treat!!! 🍌⠀ ⠀ Here's how you make it:⠀ ⠀ 🍌Take 2 ripe bananas (or more if you're making a bunch), slice and lay them out on parchment paper and freeze them.⠀ ⠀ 🍌Once frozen, add the bananas to the food processor and blend.⠀ ⠀ 🍌Scrape down the sides every so often and then continue to blend for a few minutes until smooth (it will look like soft serve ice cream).⠀ ⠀ 🍌Add or top with your favourite things like nuts or nut butter, fresh fruit, cacao nibs, cinnamon, etc. and enjoy!⠀ ⠀ Have you made #nicecream before?

The question du jour: How did you come to find holistic nutrition?⠀ ⠀ Right after university, I started to experience pretty severe digestive symptoms. My stomach was acting up ALL the time and I couldn't figure out what it was. I went to and from the doctor with NO answers, and was told It's just stress, It's in your head and that It's IBS and you're just going to have to live with it.⠀ ⠀ Eventually, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, but again, given no direction on how to HEAL from this #autoimmune condition, so continued to feel exhausted, have upset stomachs and feel pretty miserable. ⠀ ⠀ Fast forward 2 more years, where my symptoms were still bothering me and I finally sought alternative help, only to learn I had a parasite (from traveling to SE Asia)!! ⠀ ⠀ I was able to get rid of the parasite naturally, and get back to feeling awesome, but this totally sparked an interest in the world of #holisticnutrition, so I enrolled to become a Certified Nutritional Practitioner,mostly out of personal interest, and very quickly realized I wanted to make this my career!⠀ ⠀ My company now provides corporate wellness, meal planning and 1:1 nutrition coaching! 😃⠀ ⠀ PS - Hope to see you at the Fueling The Female Body event @fieldandsocial, along side @erinlevinenutrition, @emmarunsvan, @ineeeda and @eatspinrunrpt. Carrying digestive enzymes with me on my Eurotrip was a saviour for eating out for 2 weeks straight. Not a fan of kale? Since its meal prep Sunday I thought I'd share a couple of options for tenderizing kale so it's easier to eat and less bitter. Option 1: ➡️Wash the kale and remove the fibrous stems (even this alone will help). ➡️Add some olive oil and sea salt and massage it as you break it into smaller pieces. ➡️Once it's a taste and texture you like add a little lemon or ACV and enjoy. Option 2 (if massaging your food isn't your thing): ➡️Wash the kale, remove the stems and chop into small pieces ➡️Toss with a dressing of your choice and let it marinate overnight. And voila! Guess how many litres of olive oil they say the average Cretan consumes annually? 34KG!! 😱 I didn't believe this, until sitting in the restaurants and watching people pour 1/4 of a bottle over their salad, fish and pasta. ⠀ ⠀ So, for today's #nutritiontip Tuesday, I'm talking olive oil. It's one of the healthiest fats out there, as it's rich in monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid which is shown to be anti-inflammatory. ⠀ ⠀ It's also high in antioxidants, and is thought to protect against heart disease, arthritis, cancer and Type II diabetes. Personally, I notice a difference in my skin from olive + olive oil consumption.⠀ ⠀ Remember, it's not fat that makes you fat; it's sugar! So don't be afraid to 'glug' some olive oil on to your next salad! Just make sure you get the cold pressed, extra virgin! #HEALtravels
