Why is side-bending so important? The internal obliques and external obliques are responsible for lateral flexion. They, along with your transverse abdominal, stabilize your torso against the movement of your limbs. Strengthening these muscles will help prevent back pain and enhance your performance in many sports, including golf and tennis.
