2020 turned my business on its head. In 2019, the vast majority of the pots I made were sold directly through the 25+ art fairs and music festivals I participated in that year. When the cancellations of all those events started coming in hot and heavy in April, I knew I was going to have to make a big pivot (read: I was in deep shit). A large piece of the puzzle was figuring out how to sell more through my website and instagram. I’m extremely grateful to anybody that ordered through either this year. I’m super proud of the pots that I sent you, and I hope you’re putting them to good use. It’s been wild figuring out the best way to try and get the pots to you safely while also trying to be efficient about my packing/shipping time - a totally different set of challenges compared to in-person shows. The biggest thing about this year, though, was that a bunch of businesses went out of their way to place wholesale orders with me. These are small business owners whom I have gotten to know personally. My pottery was a piece of their puzzle to make it through 2020, and I’ve been extremely grateful to make some really cool stuff for them. These businesses helped to keep the lights on in 2020. Without them, I would have been up shit creek big time. They deserve to be mentioned here by name: @starvingartistbeer @mittenbar @mundosroastingco @manisteebeveragecompany @loadeddicebrewery @ambushapothecary @casa_pernoi @milkandhoneygoats And in a consignment capacity, these businesses are the best of the best: @westbayhandmade @geminihandmadegr @crookedtreetraversecity In closing, I’d like to thank anybody reading this. Regardless of whether you grabbed a pot or two this year, you’re a part of this group that’s keeping me busy and my hands dirty. 2020 held a bunch of silver linings for me and my little pottery business that I’m running, but I’m very excited and hopeful for what 2021 will bring. I hope to see you soon. -Schyler

Travel mugs. Spill and slosh resistant. Narrow on the bottom to fit in the cup holder in the car. Left hander compatible. All one piece so there’s no lid to misplace. But maybe most important, they contain no plastics or weird chemicals. Using is believing with these bad boys. They’re perfect for the coffee, tea, or cocoa lover on the go. Speaking of traveling, if you’re looking to order from the website and have me ship to you, now’s the time. After tomorrow it’s looking doubtful that things will arrive before Christmas. If you’ve been to the post office lately, you know they’re ram jammed.

Serving bowls. It’s taken me a long time to be able to make these reliably. Once I got it figured out a little, I bought a bigger kiln so I’d be able to fire them a bit easier. There are still a couple available of these available on the website. One of each color. Please note that Monday is the cutoff for Christmas ordering. After that it’s doubtful that it’ll get there by the Big Day.

I call these “Schmidt cups” after the wonderful couple who inspired them. A great all purpose cup that feels fantastic to hold and drink from. A big heads up as we’re approaching the 25th: I’ve been told that anything mailed after the 15th has a pretty slim chance of making it by the Big Day. So if you’re still planning to place an order online, better sooner than later!

The days getting shorter and the temperature dropping makes me want to get cozy and drink dark beer out of a stein like this. Nice and light, super comfortable handle, and plenty of volume. Perfect for craft beer drinkers like me. There are available in a few different glazes on my website 🍻

Starting today at noon, the Merry Marketplace opens at @crookedtreetraversecity. I have a couple tables full of nice pots set up for you to see. Here are a few of my favorite vignettes. If you’re in the TC area, this is the only somewhat “normal” holiday show that’s happening this year. It’s a great chance to support local makers and our local art center. If you’re interested, I’ll be volunteering at CTAC on Thursday from noon till 4. Come say hi!

There are some really nice pots still available on my website - my personal favorites are probably these splatter mugs. I also want to mention that I’m offering gift certificates. I’ve heard from people that missed out on the pieces they were hoping to get for gifts and such, so this is my way of remedying that. Lastly, it sounds like things need to be in the mail by the 15th in order to be delivered by Christmas. So keep that in mind, and order early!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Turns out my 9” platebowls make a pretty nice pie pan. Who knew! Pumpkin cheesecake pie by the lovely and talented @shakyhandco

EDIT: Sold Out These mugs are the result of my collaboration with @emrandalll. I made the mugs, she did the underglaze brushwork. Shown here are a few of my favorite angles, one from each of the 6 mugs we did. There is a ton of detail in each of them, and it’s impossible to catch it all from one angle. They’re really special and something I think we’re both really proud of. There are only 6 of them available through Em at her website starting at 12:00 noon today (Monday, Nov. 23rd).
