Today is the ultimate throwback because it's my wedding anniversary today. 4 years ago we got married. . It was a nerve-racking day and such vulnerability when you're declaring your love for each other. Our wedding day was a family contribution; Mum catered for our guests, Dad arranged the flowers, and I illustrated the invitations. (Swipe right to see!) I also speak about my approach to designing my wedding invitations on Instagram stories. 😊 . Funnily enough, the 4 year Wedding anniversary is Fruit and Flowers! My Aunty whose name is Flower (Dokmai) carved our names in watermelon! She is so talented! You can see it if you swipe right. . To be honest, we celebrated by watching the finale of Game of Thrones. 😂 We have plenty to look forward to and many adventures to come. . . . . Awww did you have a nice Bank Holiday Weekend? Did you go to the Notting Hill Carnival this year? . I had a mildly relaxing weekend, started with workday admin and research. My husband and I painted in the park with a picnic. It was delightful and incredible. . I love it when Bank holiday weekends are sunny and filled with chilled vibes. But it does sadden me a little because it's the last week of summer. . This illustration of a carnival dancer is one of my Favourites in the World Dance series. And I know many of you like her too. - I'm offering Free UK Shipping for this lovely colourful print of a Brazilian dancer until Friday. To keep your summer going a little while longer. - No code needed. I went to the @yoillo meet up last night and It was really lovely to meet budding like-minded creatives and illustrators. Along with the backdrop of the @theaoi World Illustration Awards exhibitions which ends this weekend at Somerset house. @somersethouse (It's Free Show!) . We chatted about everything from getting clients, confidence, self-promoting, working for yourself, etc. . I wanted to share my book recommendations for anyone who wants to be in the illustration Industry or running their own creative business. From the creative industry, self-promotion, personal and business tips; I've talked in depth about my book recommendations on my Instagram stories. I have to mention that I love the ethos of the @brewdogofficial guys and seeing how they started. . I hope you will find them useful! Have you read any of these books before? . . Also, I'm sorry for the radio silence lately. I'm feeling a lot better rebuilding my the good bacteria damaged by three courses of antibiotics. I'm still awaiting my chest x-ray results, which I'm sure it'll be fine. Not only that but lately I felt really overwhelmed with Social media in general. I just worked my projects and my day to day off-line. Sometimes you just need social media detox and meet people in real life. Which is one of the things I love to do. . Hello to new followers and nice to meet you all! ☺️ . . #illustrationbooks #businessbooks
You might have seen from my Instagram stories, I've had a really lovely day out visiting the #Hokusai exhibition at the @britishmuseum. . Hokusai is famously renowned for creating the iconic artwork Great Waves off Kanagawa which you can see swipe right. . I say this post is a definitely #colourinspo for #freeupmyinsta @allison_sadler_ . Even though I sketched in pen and pencil, I had the chance to paint in the cafe and add details. I even managed to sketch a Taoist monk visiting the show. . I've learnt so much from sketching and seeing the show. From Hokusai's technique, themes, and wood block printing. . The watercolour tin I used is actually empty half pans filled with paints from my favourite watercolour tubes. Which is really inexpensive and you can custom make it yourself. It was so satisfying to squeeze the paints into the half pans. . What are you all up to this weekend? . . . . . #junesees #sketching #sketchbook #illustratorsketchbook #doitfortheprocess #sketchbookexplorations
It's #selfietime on the #freeupmyinsta challenge by @allison_sadler_ There aren't many photos of me, that isn't a selfie. . Also, I thought I reintroduce myself and say Hello to my followers! Thank you for joining me. 😊 I'm June, and I'm a freelance illustrator. I provide live illustration at events and teach workshops; (re)building your inner creativity. . Most of all I enjoy meeting, drawing, and painting people. I also sell prints on Etsy. . I used to work in an art gallery, as a day job and I was surrounded by modern and classical art. My favourite artists of all time are Rene Gruau, John William Waterhouse, Edmund Dulac and Georgia O'Keeffe. My family comes from Thailand, it's where my love for travel and culture stemmed from. . I'm a fashionable curvy geeky girl at heart, who loves Disney movies, Japanese animation, Hello Kitty, and TV series. . Best movies I have seen this year was Wonder Woman and Get Out. . What's your favourite movie or TV series you seen this year? . . . .
How did your Monday go today? With the best intentions, unfortunately, today is a write-off. I'm so glad I treated myself over the weekend visiting the Hokusai Exhibition at the @britishmuseum and I painted for fun. . I collect postcards from shows and exhibitions, very rarely I buy the whole postcard set and more from an art exhibition. . Hokusai's most famous piece is this Great Wave under Mount Fuji. When I saw it, it was a magnificent to see the original woodblock print for myself. . Even more inspiring was that Hokusai created this masterpiece when he's in his 70s. Wow, creativity is timeless. So it's never too late create your masterpiece. . Hokusai is finishing this weekend, so I hope you can see it before you go. Get there early if you can, and pre-book tickets because the queues are tremendously long for the show! . Have you seen it yet? . You can swipe to see the more of Hokusai's artworks. . . #freeupmyinsta challenge by @allison_sadler_ #treatyoself2017 . . .
Hi guys, what have you been up to this weekend? This was a Freedom weekend for me - indulging in my creative pursuits. You might have seen this 'sketch' on my Instagram stories on Friday. Which I actually coloured in using Instagram stories tools. . One of the things I love about posting Instagram stories is that I chat to you personally, show you my little world, be a bit silly and create sketches digitally like this. It was such fun to do. You can do this anywhere! . Inspired by my love of the fashion illustrator, Rene Gruau, using graphic blocks of colours and simple gestural lines. . . I'm behind two days on the #freeupmyinsta challenge by @allison_sadler_ But I'm gonna keep on going where I left off! . I totally recommend using Instagram stories to show off your creativity! I love to see what you come up with! . . . . .
The view from the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand. - View - is the prompt today from the #freeupmyinsta challenge by the lovely @allison_sadler_ . Have you guys been to Bangkok before? It's a humid and bustling city, the Grand Palace is one of the main tourist attractions. I took Rob to for the first time 4 years ago. There are such strict clothing rules to enter into the Palace, as it's a deemed a holy and sacred place. Robert and I had to wear long sleeves and long trousers, and boy! we were boiling! . The Grand Palace is the equivalent to Buckingham Palace in London; the past royals used to reside, and pray here. . A lot has changed since because this October, will be the public funeral proceedings of the King Bhumibol Adulyadej, his majesty Rama IX who died sadly last year. There's going to be a large gathering and public cremation at the Grand Palace. That will be a sight to see... . Thais adore their royalty and especially King Bhumibol Adulyadej, from hearing Mum's stories, he brought morale back to the poorest country by focusing on agriculture to produce more foods. He is dearly missed in Thailand. . Have you been to the Grand Palace before? What was it like for you?? . . .
My home is not the tidiest and my bedroom is a mess 🙈. @allison_sadler_ #freeupmyinsta prompt is all about the home. . My favourite room is my studio; set up in the dining room. Which I use almost for everything! From taking product photos, applying my makeup, run my business, and paint (mostly late at night!) . . I love surrounding my walls with postcards from galleries and museums, photos and few of my sketches. It's like a haven for me. . Also, I'm a perpetual night owl, whos trying hard to become an early bird! I'm failing so far... I think my creativity comes best during the night. . .
Dream a little dream of me? . Another #freeupmyinsta challenge part Deux! by lovely @allison_sadler_ Today's prompt is Dream. . I identify as a realist dreamer. Maybe it's because I'm a Gemini? I see both the realistic and idealistic, yet they conflict and turmoil with one another. . Yet I dream of creating beautiful artwork with a story or meaning behind it. And for my artwork be seen and used for a purpose. Of course, I have my dream clients, who I would love to work or partner with. . For the long term, I want to leave a legacy for my future children and family members, and I want to be able to support them. . Become a patron for the Arts, volunteer for elephant conversation, actively support cocoa farmers and build schools in rural South East Asia. . This illustration here is actually the Wedding Invitations I designed for my own big day. The Tiger and Rabbit reflect the differences and strengths, my husband and I have. . Also, they are our Chinese Year animals. It meant a lot to both of us, even more, that guests told me they still keep the invitation. . This framed print is still one of my best sellers on my Etsy shop. You can find it in my Etsy shop; link in the bio. . You can swipe to see more of this illustration in detail and as the invite. . I love to hear about your dreams. . . . #junesees #weddingstationery #weddinginvitation #tropicaldecor #tropicalprints #etsyselleruk #littlestoriesofmylife #shopsmall #thatsdarling
