Lessons from the Trail #2: #Repost @summitdogtraining • • • • • Grey skies set a good mood for much pondering. ▪️ I do my best thinking and resetting on the trail. And my dog needs the same. ▪️ If you do most of your walks and exercise for your dog on busy sidewalks, city parks, or at the dog park, that might not be helping your dog relax. Think about a busy day at work or traveling for you - you might be tired afterwards, but you are likely tense and worked up as well - not a good kind of tired. ▪️ Try switching one of your dog park romps each week for a deserted trail. Use a long line to give more freedom if you aren’t sure your dog will be reliable completely off leash. ▪️ Dogs need decompression too. We can take deep breaths together. ❤️ • • • • • ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you so much for sharing this, @summitdogtraining! Jude might have been feeling a little left out during the goat training 😊
A close-up of Keelin, the pregnant goat! Keelin is learning that being touched, examined and handled in a variety of places by humans is a good thing in preparation for motherhood. @takingwingconsulting is a great goat guardian, and it's been such a pleasure to learn about this wonderful species from them.
Jude loves people and has a history of pawing at them for attention. Jude is a very big boy with very big paws, so this can be unpleasant for us delicate humans. Jude is simply being social, so he just needed guidance as to what to do instead. He's learning that sitting calmly (and staring at us with those sweet brown eyes) will be rewarded with treats and pets.
I always enjoy working with and learning from @takingwingconsulting! #Repost @takingwingconsulting • • • • • @healtohowl and I working on face to target without licking or mouthing with very pregnant Keelin! Lessons from the Trail #1: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It can be incredibly beneficial to teach our pets practical skills to make hiking safer and more enjoyable. On this hike, we utilized hand targeting and Aela's wait and release cues to safely navigate the many fallen trees and branches on the trails. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What useful skills does your dog know that improve your hiking experience? Do you have any lessons from the trail you'd like to share with us? Tag us or send us a message for a chance to be featured on our page! #h2hlessonsfromthetrail
We're excited to announce our new post series called Lessons from the Trail to share the lessons we learn while hiking and exploring the world with other animals. Share with us the lessons you've learned on the trail for a chance to be featured on our page! #h2hlessonsfromthetrail
Last month, I started working on teaching Aela retrieve for an assignment for @theacademyfordogtrainers. This clip is from the first time Aela saw the retrieve object. My criteria at this stage was simply for her face to be within six inches of it. She wasn't sure what I wanted yet though, so she started offering her newest behavior she's learned instead: lateral recumbency! This behavior can be useful during husbandry and veterinary care, especially if she were to need radiographs. She also just looks so cute when she does it!
After seeing our recent post, @leto_thedog got a lickimat and loves it! Thanks for sharing, Leto! Be sure to follow Leto for some very cute pictures 😊 [Repost @leto_thedog] • • • • • I love my new #lickimat! Thanks @healtohowl for the recommendation. 😎 #asmr
