Born in the city of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Shivangi had wanted to become a pilot since she was a young girl. She was commissioned into the Indian Navy last year after her initial training. Fulfilling her long-cherished dream, she received her 'qualification wings' and has joined the operational duties at Kochi naval base. People were very supportive, I never felt like I am the only lady here, so that was because of my squadron and my instructors and all the people here, she said. A supportive and proud family helped her thrive through under all circumstances. She will be flying the Dornier surveillance aircraft of the Indian Navy. In 2016, the Indian Air Force enlisted women pilots for the first time and in May 2019, Flight Lieutenant Bhawana Kanth became the first woman pilot to qualify to undertake combat missions on a fighter jet. There are also two other women who are set to become navy pilots on December 21. Now that the glass ceiling has been shattered as far as the naval cockpit is concerned and the fragments have disappeared up in the air, does this mean more possibilities and opportunities for women who are willing to join the defence force? Lamya Arsiwala of Yoga House summarizes her journey of 5 years in the world of yoga. @pixielammy always wanted to help humans. She always had an idealist way of thinking and could understand emotions well. Her yoga mat became her healing ground right after her best friend passed away, about a decade ago. She inculcates traditional practices in her teaching methods and that’s what makes her stand out! Lamya says “I think everything begins and ends in self-care and self-love. Without it, one can create no value in their lives. The simple act of applying cream on your body is an act of self-care. It is, however, the intention with which you approach self-care. For instance - people care for their skin out of fear of ageing versus taking care of it as a way of showing ‘love’ to your body. That's where the difference lies. The voice in your head - is it critical or kind? Is it coming from fear or love? That is the right understanding of self-care! Her coaching adapts to every individual’s situation - from creating harmony in relationships, manifesting ideal careers, weight management to even sleep issues. She also conducts workshops in corporate settings and takes emotional empowerment sessions in private.
