Elliot, a 5 year old volunteer with @behipyyc (Humanity In Practice), drew this drawing to show his happiness when volunteering! On his birthday last year, instead of gifts, he asked his friends to bring a small donation. “I want to help the people that are poor have a Merry Christmas!” he said when presenting his envelope of money raised to HIP. Then Elliot helped stuff 226 stockings for children living in three YYC Shelters. #KidsofAlberta Elliot is proof of the desire our young children have to help others, and that at any age, anyone can make a difference. Please, donate today through @shaw Birdies for Kids presented by @altalink!

“Blossom: represents someone opening up and moving on from negative past experiences. The flower blooming represents ‘breaking free’ and the blue colour on the hands of the person that flows down, represents the positive change inspired by the person’s action,” described Anna, regarding her artwork after taking different modules within the BreathingRoom program through CINIM. “I really liked the advice on how to forgive others, as that helps people heal and move on!” #KidsofAlberta Thank you for the wise words Anna! And what a great piece of artwork 😊 To help more children and youth learn new ways to manage symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression through CINIM’s @breathingroomyyc program, donate today to @shaw Birdies for Kids presented by @altalink!
Happy @calgarystampede, everyone! @kidsupfrontcalg provides experiences to deserving kids, teens and families. Hear how one family got to experience the greatest outdoor show on earth! “My family and I would love to say a gigantic thank you for the seats Kids Up Front gave us to the Stampede evening show! We had a heart pounding night of Chuckwagon heats, dancing, singing, and fireworks! The whole night was a bonanza of excitement and it’s thanks to Kids Up Front that we could even experience this year’s Stampede. We would not have been able to afford it on our own. It’s because of groups like Kids Up Front that we can have a family experience and live like a “normal” family. Kids Up Front gives families like mine that are affected by many different problems, the chance to live like an ordinary family would, even if it is just for one night.” #KidsofAlberta Help more families like this one enjoy different experiences within Calgary, by donating to Kids Up Front, and have your donations matched up to 50% through @shaw Birdies for Kids presented by @altalink

Addiction can be a scary and lonely place. Hear how the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC) has helped Riley on his road to recovery. While in my addiction, I lost sight of the person I wanted to be, and believed that I was destined to live a miserable life. Deep down, I really wanted to be successful, to have healthy relationships and to make my family proud. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much hope for my future because I couldn’t stop using drugs and alcohol. At age 17, I entered treatment at AARC, and soon after the other youth and staff showed me that I could have the life I always wanted and how to get it. Now, I have freedom from my addiction and proudly live in recovery. This September, I start university to fulfill my dream of becoming an engineer. This would not have been possible without the support of my family and AARC. Today, I am very grateful to be 2 years sober and excited for what lies ahead!” - Riley, AARC Graduate #578 #KidsofAlberta Thank you, Riley, for sharing your story with us! Be sure to help other kids like Riley get the help they need, by donating today through @shaw Birdies for Kids presented by @altalink.

Hear how the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation has helped Alex, a future Olympian, in this weeks Kids of Alberta! My life used to revolve around hockey. I always dreamed that someday I would play on the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team. I worked really hard at it. One game last year, though, I took a pretty hard hit that landed me in the hospital with compartment syndrome, a really dangerous build-up of bleeding and pressure inside of my thigh muscle. I could have lost my leg. Lucky for me, the Alberta Children’s Hospital has some amazing surgeons who were able to help me recover. But, in a weird twist, the first time I was back on the ice for practice, I ended up taking a skate to the elbow and the surgeons at the hospital had to do an amazing operation, so that I didn’t lose use of my hand! I honestly don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have the help I had at the hospital. #KidsofAlberta Thank you for sharing your story with us Alex! Donate today through @shaw Birdies for Kids presented by @altalink, to help more kids like Alex reach their potential!
