This #Throwback Thursday goes out to stunning Morocco, with its cloudless skies, its wonderful people and its enthralling culture. This little lettered ditty was completed one afternoon surrounded by date palms, practicing a bit of line drawing. Some photos of our travels are up on our website! Check them out at WanderOnWords.com on the photography page. Happy Thursday! . . . . . #handlettering #marrakech #morocco #lettering #travel #tbt #throwbackthursday #modernlettering #photographers #travelmorocco
“Be humble for you are made of earth, be noble for you are made of stars.” – Serbian Proverb | Happy First Day of Spring, everyone! I love this proverb and thought it was a good notion to keep you going in this exciting season of renewal. Also, take me back to Morocco? 🌺🖊
It’s my thought that everyone could use more inspiration and positivity in their daily lives, and it’s Wander On Words’ mission to spread it! With an extra push from a few friends, I have finally put together a calendar for this year. It’s a bit late, I know, but it does span 12 months and will take you from April 2019 through March of 2020. It’s full of hand-lettered nuggets of inspiration to help you stay on the positive side of things. Interested? Head on over to my Etsy shop to get yours today! Link in bio!
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts, therefore guard accordingly.” – Marcus Aurelius | Good Morning and Happy Monday to you! Here is a little lettered inspiration to start your week. I tried to letter a bit each day of our travels. This piece filled some time during our flight to / layover at JFK. . ✈️ . Reed and I binged a show about the Roman Empire on Netflix a while back and I was intrigued by Marcus Aurelius. He was called the Philosopher and his personal writings have been praised by fellow writers, philosophers, and monarchs – as well as by poets and politicians – centuries after his death. . 🖋 . I did some research into his words and discovered this quote that resonated with me. Inspiration can come from anywhere and everywhere. Think happy thoughts this week! Don’t let negativity bring you down.
“It’s no use carrying an umbrella if your shoes are leaking.” – Irish Proverb | Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Wander On Words! I hope you enjoy the day with a good Guinness and a few Irish blessings. This fun Proverb made me laugh as well as think. You have to tackle the small things first. I am currently going through emails and catching up on work, but plan on getting ready for some shows and doing big things this spring! Keep positive! ☘️☔️🍀
“Traveling - it gives you home in thousand strange places, then leaves you a stranger in your own land.” – Ibn Battuta | Morocco was an incredible, beautiful experience, but it’s so good to be home with our pup...though it is strange to not hear tons of different languages at once and see snowflakes instead of sun. We bought this gorgeous, handmade, Berber runner on our hike through the Atlas Mountains and are pretty stoked to have it now grace our Vermont home. Fin thinks it’s pretty great, too! Now, time to sleep and snuggle on the couch for the entire afternoon. 😴🐾
“There are certain places on the surface of the earth that posses more magic than others, and one of those places is Marrakech.” – Paul Bowles | Today we explored some special places in Marrakech, including the Saadian Tombs and the Badi Palace. Both are relics of the Saadian dynasty and date back to the 16th century. We relished another delectable dinner in a former palace, complete with exquisite architecture and detail work. I am sad to say farewell to this amazing country today, but can not wait to see our puppy and be back in cozy Vermont!
“When the stomach gets full it tells the head to sing.” – Moroccan Proverb | We took a Moroccan cooking class today! It was interesting, informative, and delicious. I made chicken tajine, zaalook (eggplant) salad, and taktuka (tomato and pepper) salad. Those who know me know I am a terrible cook, so this was a huge accomplishment for me! I definitely plan on attempting to cook Moroccan dishes back home. Moroccan food is full of spices, vegetables, and tasty oils. We rounded out the day by ambling around the souks and taking in more of this unique North African culture! 🍽✌️🇲🇦
“There's just really interesting facets of culture just swirling in Morocco. They all have slightly different colours, so it's just an inspiring place to be.” – Mark Foster | The marvelous Atlas Mountains extend across northwestern Africa, spanning Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, separating the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline from the Sahara Desert. They are dotted with Berber villages and riven with canyons and ravines. The highest peak is Toubkal at 13,671 ft, which we had the privilege to view. We spent today trekking into these stunning Atlas Mountains. The hospitality, panoramic views, and scrumptious lunch were magnificent. An inspiring place indeed! 🏔🍵
