“Power concedes nothing without a demand. And statehood is our demand.”—@mayor_bowser Ahead of today’s historic vote in the House, the #MuralsDC51 project was born to create 51 public murals representing DC statehood, Black history, and social justice in all 8 Wards, in the span of just six days. This beauty from @lisamariestudio can be found at Sherwood Recreation Center in Ward 6.. Repost from @flipflopcaravan #taxationwithoutrepresentation #51state #dcstatehood #acreativedc
Very proud that #au_americanmag has adopted this important style change starting with our July issue.
What have we learned from coronavirus, why should we care, and where do we go from here? How do build a more equitable, just, and sustainable “new normal?” In the July issue of #au_americanmag, 64 @americanuniversity professors and alumni experts offer their insights on everything from health disparities, the digital divide, and civility to childcare, mental health, and climate change. #knowledgeispower #americanu #americanuniversity
From @nmaahc: #Onthisday in 1865, enslaved African Americans were notified of their freedom by Union troops in Galveston, TX—two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Known as #Juneteenth, this day is widely celebrated as the end of chattel slavery in the U.S. Juneteenth marks our country’s second Independence Day. Though it has long been celebrated among the African American community, it is a history that has been marginalized and still remains largely unknown to the wider public. The legacy of Juneteenth shows the value of deep hope and urgent organizing in uncertain times. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control, some enslaved people would not be free until much later. Our Museum is a community space where that spirit can continue to live on – where histories like this one can surface, and new stories with equal urgency can be told. #APeoplesJourney #ANationsStory⠀
8 years ago, #DACA was created with the intention to provide dreamers the opportunity to live and work in the US without fear. The future of DACA is uncertain, but we will continue to stand with undocumented students and families 🦋 #homeishere 📸: @aucdi
