Resilient : characterized or marked by resilience: such as a : capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture b : tending to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune What are your obstacles? What is keeping you for achieving your dreams? Been reading the book Good to Great by Jim Collins and learning about what makes a company stand apart. Been thinking a lot about the challenges I’ve had to overcome personally. One was poor health. I’ve had chronic migraines since I was 12 years old. I’ve seen the specialists in New York to Los Angeles, I’ve searched the whole world for all of the solutions but learned over the 23 years that only I am responsible for my health and no pill or doctor will save me. I’ve learned a lot about good nutrition and now my pain level during a migraine is so manageable! Instead of 2-3 migraines a month, I am down to 1 every other month or so! My migraine pain was the most debilitating pain that often kept me in bed for a few days with my stomach in knots, hugging the toilet and many times I would get rushed to the emergency room due to dehydration. Another was lack of money. I was raised in a wonderful, very happy but poor family and there were months where after my father paid the bills, there were as little as 7 dollars in the account. This installed in me a fear of money, either making too much to too little and I generally avoided money completely. Having to overcome that massive mind obstacle was hard but I’ve seen this little company explode this last year and reach the triple digits. This allowed my family to move out of our apartment and buy a house last year. I could go on with other obstacles I’ve faced in life...these are just two that come to mind but I say all this not to boast but to encourage you. I know you have obstacles friend....we all do and sometimes they seem so heavy and insurmountable and difficult to overcome, they shrink us...they keep us back from using those obstacles as stepping stones to where we need to go. One word friend...keep saying it to yourself. Resilient. You can do this! Image of me by that amazing @kellesauer
This day and this moment! The waves were crashing all around and the tide came in so fast, we all got out pant legs wet and were sunburned and ended the day with Margaritas. It was just glorious. You don’t want to miss this year’s @workshopvero. We only have a few spots left! Link in profile! Pic by the wonderful @kberryphoto Gown by @shopgossamer Hair @sharonypark and makeup @olga_pirmatova
Resilient. What makes a person resilient? I’m curious your thoughts? I often think of the amazing creatives that have failed and failed but never gave up...Thomas Edison and the Wright brothers are a few of my personal favorite underdogs that had massive resiliency despite the odds. We all have big road blocks in our path...I don’t care if your the queen of England or Beyoncé, we all have to put our pants on one leg at a time and are faced with the same challenges...I’m learning that the strength of calm heart, a study mind and a good dose of resiliency despite the mistakes we make goes a long ways. “Resilient people aren't afraid to admit they have weaknesses. Whether an effective leader acknowledges problems within an organization, or an individual recognizes areas in need of personal growth, resilient people use failure as an opportunity to spot their weaknesses. “The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities. Aesop You guys won’t want to miss @workshopvero this year. Between a shoot at the @paulaleduc #beaulieugarden, a Editoral in a wine cave with moody lighting and a sunset seaside editorial, it’s going to be truly amazing. “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” Mark Twaine So excited to be meeting back up with @monsoleilweddings @monsoleilproductions this weekend for @ericaenglish wedding! Surround yourself with people with high standards and you will raise your bar every time. And yes I’m quoting Tony Robbins because I’ve seen miracles happen this year and it’s because I’ve started to believe in that woo woo stuff and it’s working 😂 Happy Monday friends! Isn’t spring grand? So full of hope? What’s your favorite season? From the @theknot editorial with @thismodernromance and @oftheflowers
Back home from Washington DC and goodness it feels lovely to be sitting at my home office snuggling my babies! Thank you again to @teakandtwine And @monsoleilweddings For such an amazing time. My favorite part was our dinner conversation that sparked a new fire in me to put even more intentionality into our systems and processes here at TAS. Surround yourself with people that inspire you and you will always be raising your standards! L Listened to all of the podcasts while traveling and the @thephotoreport by @braedonflynn and @carrielauren about good vs poor editorials stood out to me. They were talking about how the photoshoot world is getting over done and how important it is to know yourself and what you are trying to achieve when producing a shoot because shooting without direction will lead to aimless images that can confuse the bride and land flat with the editors you pitch to. You’ve basically spent money that goes no where and blended into the rest because you didn’t know your voice. We produce Ad campaigns for companies and provide portfolio images for clients to market to their ideal client and I also can see a direct correlation to those clients who know who they are and come with specific direction vs those who don’t and are just trying to produce something beautiful without knowing why. I was there for years too! Just producing what was pretty and aiming for just another pretty image...but the moral of the story friends is this...don’t be afraid to do the heart work, the silent work, the difficult emotional and tedious work of figuring out who you and why your different because the truth is you are uniquely made and no one on earth is like you!! You have a story to tell...you have a place and your voice is important. Don’t let the world fool you into thinking you’ve got to speed up and produce work just because everyone else is doing it..it’s ok to take your time and do one thing exceptionally well from your heart. That one thing done well in love speaks volumes to people. Preaching to the choir here myself. Happy Thursday friends! This little nugget jus turned 3 and I get a little teary eyed looking at this photo of me holding her. Sometimes I feel like I am completely failing at this thing called Motherhood. I snap at the kids more than I like, I can’t seem to keep the house clean or the dishes out of the sink and I’m often torn between wanting to spend all of my moments just watching them grow at home or go to work really hard on providing for their future. Had a lovely conversation with a creative working mother today who has two small kids under 3 and we talked about the reality of it all. The love you have for your children and the desire to create a better world for them by working for them and how exhausting it is at times. Today I want to offer an encouragement to you tired moms out there working putting in the late nights, the work over nap time hours, the early morning emails and juggling a million things. I see you and you are not alone. Value your time as it’s precious and know just how important you are. The work of you hands can provide massively for your family and the time you spend with them has great purpose too. Slow down and be fully present...people don’t stay and change and each interaction, is important. The work and the time spent fully with then...it all matters. I’m cheering you on friend. 💕#fridayintroductions Picture by @kellesauer robe by @girlandaseriousdream
My beloved California coastline. Growling up in the central part of Cali, when the summer hits, the heat turns on and almost every summer my family would go camping on the beach where is was cooler. The beach means laughter, reading books, playing cards, falling asleep to the sound of the waves lapping the sand, waking up to the sea gulls cries, beach runs and long conversations with my father. Getting excited about another beachside inspired shoot with @kberryphoto tomorrow. Happy first day of Spring! To celebrate I’m going on a picnic with the kiddos Friday! Spring is my favorite season in California and the blossoms have been out in all of their glory due to the heavy rains. Where is your favorite place to see the blossoms in California? My family and I always would ride the blossom trail in Central Cali every spring to see all of the almond and fruit trees bloom. Such fun memories! Image by incomparable @thismodernromance Flowers by @oftheflowers who killed it on the florals for @mandymooremm wedding did you see that pink floral goodness?
And the pressed floral theme continues! See how we applied this same story to the table and set and invite in my previous posts or pick up @theknot magazine in the current newsstands. Every good editorial tells a story to the viewer and for all of the images to have cohesion, you must weave that story through each shot you style. @kcwitkamp killed this look!
