Woke up in Wyoming and just crossed Cali’s state line. Almost home from our beautiful trip. 💕

I have been quiet in the last few weeks because I have been listening. Listening to people of color, listening to white folks that I thought would never take a stand on social justice, speak out for the first time and listening to others who decry the looting and riots as bad behavior. My family and I have had a lot of conversations about the real history of this country. We have told them about slavery, about the people who literally built this country and how they were enslaved. And we talk most days about how we as white people have a lot of work to do to level the playing field. My husband works on the ground at Skid Row, which is 80% black, providing health care and services to the most disenfranchised. I donate my time to pregnant women who are experiencing homelessness and offer free maternity and newborn sessions. I am not saying this to win the woke award. I have friends that also have children who do more work than I and I think of them when I am feeling lazy or too self involved to get any activism done. What I am saying is that white folks need to do more than post on Facebook and go to a protest or two. This work is a lifelong commitment. And there are so many ways to engage. Hate crowds and marches? I do.Volunteer @harvesthomela they always need help with all the mamas and babies. Or donate services to other non profit organizations in your hood! Donate your time and talent to black and brown folks that cannot afford it. Follow @wp4bl and receive daily actions that will help pass the legislature needed to bring racial equity in Los Angeles. There are a ton of ways to be an activist. Find a few organizations in your hood and commit to doing the work. Black folks have been on the front lines since forever and they are tired. White folks, let’s collectively stand up and do the work! #blacklivesmatter

Parenting has become a whole new ballgame, am I right? I’m trying to focus on the fact that I am not driving all over town for pick ups and drop offs. We can sleep in. We can be slow. I miss hiking and adult conversations the most. And my kids miss their friends and play dates. But we got this, even if it means some of us regress a tiny bit. I’m sending all of you love and patience and ease. We are all in this together.💛#quarantinelife

For me, quarantine means making an effort to be more mindful and to craft our everyday activities into something beautiful. We have taken to candlelight dinners and I think it may be my favorite things about quarantine life so far. Stay home, stay safe everyone. #quarantine

I love that moment it stops raining. The air is crisp and clean and the clouds are still in the sky taking their rain to the next place. Tomorrow we will be adventuring.

I get a lot of love for my color images but in my heart, I will always be a black and white film photographer. #darkroomforever
