Sadly, we've lost our ability to harvest abalone next year. Because of this I’ve released this abalone cycle over Northern California so that we never forget how important the culture of abalone diving/picking is. I will also be working with people in the abalone diving community to stay vigilant on making sure this fishery opens back up when conditions permit. To do this we will donate 10% of all sales of this print to this cause. This is all new, so I don't know where this will go, but I want to put it in good hands so that the right people can be put in the right place to advocate for divers and pickers of this legendary snail. If you have any suggestions, please message. No bitching on this thread. Let’s move forward. Thank you.
One of my favorite things about the shadow boxes I use is you can pop the back out and put stuff inside. @bigjimspearo with a cool mixed bag of otoliths and other beach combing treasures to go with his striper over Monterey Bay.
Pretty sure I’ve been Cyber Mondaying for a couple weeks 😬, for good reason. I haven’t crunched numbers from the weekend sales, but we’re over $2000 raised for the Leal, Johnson & Gonzales families hit hard by Hurricane Irma and Sonoma fires, respectively. There’s 4 more days to go!! Thank you all! 🙌🏼
Friday Dec 1, 5PM. Save the date Santa Cruz locals! I’ll be hanging a bunch of my original watercolor fish as well as a series of giclees for purchase downtown @botanicandluxe. This will be the first time I’ve hung these originals. I’ll also be there with a small pop up with hats, stickers and my most popular nor cal inspired art. Hope to see you there!
Much to be thankful for today, including all the support you all give to my work as an artist/illustrator. Collectors, clients or groms slapping a sticker on a tackebox. It’s humbling. 🦃🙏🏼🙏🏼 Happy Thanksgiving!
