Happy Father's Day to this guy! He's the silliest, most patient and loving dad out there and I'm super lucky to have him!
😆 already feeling the author of my newest read and I haven't even started the actual book...
This months reads!
Hey, white friends posting their white guilt journey narratives... you might want to consider the intentions of sharing your experience and receiving likes and accolades of praise for your self-betterment and education. I have seen more than a few POC friends post that while solidarity and support are appreciated, these narratives are only further exploiting the power of white guilt to distract from the real issue at hand: the experiences of POC dealing and moving forward to equity and equality. It is WONDERFUL if you are doing all the right things and it is fantastic that you are educating yourself...however, you should be doing these things for the inherent value of DOING THOSE THINGS, without feeling you need to put YOUR experience on display! It is important to be mindful of when it is time to tell YOUR story and when it is time to actively LISTEN TO and SHARE the stories of others, make donations, post important information, and march. Keep DOING the right things, have conversations and use social media to share those things.
Celebrating my dissertation grade! Cheers!
This prefatory quote in my newest read reminded me how easy it is to forget how our human nature can hurt us as much as it can help. This time is difficult. We should all practice compassion and empathy. If you find yourself feeling lost in loneliness these days, please reach out. You won't be ignored.
