It’s #fashionrevolution week and we are responding to your call for transparency and letting you know #whomademyclothes. At Treetops it is important to us that you get, not only an incredible product, but one that provides a fair and safe income to everyone involved in the process. • Meet Nadia, our Lead Sewer at Treetops. The driving force behind our Organic Collection. Not only is she an incredibly talented seamstress, but she is an artist and ceramicist as well! You can find her work in the Organic Collection and Home section on our website (link in bio).
We ❤️ our friends at @funkybuddhayoga! They are great collaborators, community-builders, and yogis! Win the bidding for this 1 month unlimited pass along with some goodies from our collab with them and you’ll be set to do sun salutations in style this summer 🌞
Not only does the fashion industry cause immense harm to the environment, but it has a human toll as well. 97% of the clothes we purchase are made overseas, often in developing countries, where labor is cheap and laws protecting workers are scarce and poorly enforced. There are approximately 40 million garment workers in the world today, 85% of whom are women. Our cheap clothes come at a much higher cost than we see. The hands who piece together our $10 shirts are some of the lowest paid in the world, often laboring long hours in dangerous environments. • At Treetops we are committed to providing safe working environments, in which our employees can thrive, flourish, and express their God-given creativity and talent. We believe in fair compensation and intentionally pay a living wage. Where you spend your dollar matters - as a consumer you have the power to pressure fast fashion companies to protect their employees and create a healthier and safer garment industry. • Source: truecostmovie.com

Meet Eliza! One of our faithful volunteers, @eliza.fernand has served Treetops in so many ways. She has been key in helping set up our Etsy shop, advising in collaborations, and with garment inventory. She is a teaching artist, and creates beautiful and unique pieces. We are so thankful for Eliza and the creativity and insight she brings to our team. • Overwhelmed by the many issues facing our country, Eliza was motivated to volunteer with Treetops by a desire to invest in her community and make changes locally. She is passionate about refugee and immigrant rights, and wanted to serve an organization that supports women as well. • Working with Treetops has allowed Eliza to recognize the endless ways to create positive change. She has met and worked with many women who are making positive changes in their own circles, and they have inspired her to recognize her own ability to make a change. She loves Treetops’ message of community and collaboration, and the creative ways they have sought to serve refugee women. • Eliza seeks to spread welcome by projecting “an accepting and inviting attitude to all of those around me.” As a teaching artist she has the chance to encourage critical conversations and design activities for her students that help them understand their own impact on the world. She aims to give them the opportunity to imagine an open-minded future in which all are welcome.

Did you know that 15% of fabric created for the fashion industry ends up on the cutting room floor? That amounts to about 645 Billion square feet of textiles thrown away each year. • At Treetops, we are continually working to find better ways to cut our fabrics and reduce waste. The scraps we do create, we give to local sewing groups or partner with companies like @PublicThread to give them new life and keep them out of our landfills. • What are some ways that you give new life to your clothes?
