@who has declared 2020 the year of the Nurse and the Midwife. In this week's Dean's Blog Dr Erna Snelgrove-Clarke, our SON Director, sheds light on the significance of this declaration, and discusses the future of nursing. [Link in bio] #yearofthenurseandmidwife #yearofthenurse @queensuniversity
Yesterday, SON alumna Dr Julia Lukewich presented the inaugural Gerri MacEwen Memorial Lecture in Nursing. Her topic was Registered Nurses: Paving the Way to Better Primary Care. The lecture was established by Dr Pete MacEwen, MD '73, in memory of Gerri MacEwen to bring the School of Nursing speakers on a variety of nursing topics. We would like to thank Dr MacEwen for his support of the School, and Dr Lukewich for her insightful presentation. #queensu

**SWEP is hiring nursing students to work at the SON for Summer 2020- apply now and find more information through your Queen's MyCareer page** . . As a SWEP (Queen's Summer Work Experience Program) student, I was allowed to work directly with my professors and personally contribute to their research projects. With my SWEP experience, I learned that there is an entirely different world of career opportunities in the field of nursing that involve unique research projects. This experience has helped me understand program software and develop professional interpersonal skills through engaging and hands-on experiences that cannot be learned in a classroom. . - Stephanie Saunders, BNSc Student, former SON SWEP student

You learn autonomy throughout this program as you progress, kind of like taking the training wheels off as you move along, and this kind of hands-on experience is so valuable.” Be sure to check out this article on our recent AST Class of 2019 grads Melissa and Shannon's #NursesAre project! #qgrad19 #queensu
