Sonya Fenn is a personal trainer here at Bay City Gym, and I'm sure she won't mind me saying, just like me, part of the 'nuts and bolts' of Bay City Gym. . Sonya and I started working together at BCG 13 years ago!! Sonya's strong work ethic, loyalty and drive to help people better themselves physically through exercise has shaped her into a valued and well respected trainer. Her caring, passionate and committed nature translates directly into her training methods. . Sonya started her business Fit Mamas 5 years ago after recognising a need for women and Mum's to have a training option in a group environment outside of peak times that often clashed with family time. She runs her bootcamp coinciding with school terms, and has a strong following of committed women signed up. . A member that had taken time off to start a family rejoined through Sonya's Fit Mamas group and has continued to resign with her for the past 2 years. She said that 'Sonya is an amazingly supportive trainer that goes the extra mile and has helped her to achieve her goals'. She went on to say 'Sonya has shown me my potential by pushing me further than I thought possible in an encouraging and supportive environment'. . Today's introduction is someone you may already know, Bysshe Blackburn. . Bysshe started working for us after he completed his Personal Training qualification. He'd been a member at the gym for a couple of years, giving us a huge advantage in getting to know him first. We knew he'd fit in as part of the team and be a huge asset to BCG. . Bysshe is our 'cement between the bricks, he helps us 'keep it all together!' . His own evaluations and goals he sets himself, his attention to detail, passion for training and creative personality translates directly into the effort he puts into his clients. On a day to day basis I see him 'going the extra mile' and it is cemented into his DNA to help. . Bysshe is super passionate about helping people move better. He will give you the time, patience, and feedback explaining to you what is happening as you move and what adjustments to make to improve your movement. We hear all the time how awesome technique is important to make the most gains quicker right? . A client of his recently told me that Bysshe really listened to her, found out what she was trying to achieve and not only wrote her program but corrected her technique which was important for her after coming to the gym for several years. I was so pleased when she told me that she's absolutely loving being shown how to squat, deadlift, bench and overhead press as she is proud that she can train confidently in the weights area. She said 'He also checks in with me regularly and is available to help whenever I have questions' and that in a nutshell is accountability!! . From weight loss to strengthening to Power Lifting (his not so secret sport he participates in) he will be a massive asset to your fitness journey as he is to ours.
The first trainer I'd like to introduce to you this week is Mike. . Mike recently joined the team in February this year. We warmed to Mike instantly, and he easily became a part of the team. His enthusiasm and passion stood out from the get go. . Mike is a motivator at heart. He gives 110% and it really shows how much he loves training his clients and teaching classes. . One if his clients said to me that she loves how he is always re-evaluating her training according to her training goals. She commented how he is full of new and varied training methods that keep my training sessions fresh, interesting and motivating. . I wanted to share a video he put together of his last training session with Toa. It's just one example of what he does. Check it out!!
Tuesday thoughts... . Do you feel like you are stuck in a rut with your training? Are you stumped as to why you're not progressing with your workouts? Do you come to the gym without a plan or have no goals set? . These are problems that members, past and present, talk to me about every day. Interestingly even the most motivated and regular members face these same problems. . When implementing your 'Summer Bod' fitness plan this year please consider the following: . Accountability - who is going to hold you accountable? In my recent experience my workouts became regular once I joined a program and knew that there was a trainer here waiting for me to show up. . Intensity - Will you train at the weight and rep ratio you need to change your body? One word from me - No - I'll be honest, if it hurts too much I'll stop or find a favourite movement that my mind and body prefers. . Adaptation/change - this means to stress the body in the right way that causes the muscles to respond and get stronger without risking injury but in the most time effective way possible. . Recovery - how many times a week should i train, when should I change my training methods, am I getting enough sleep, people tell me I need supplements and protein? It can be a mindfield of questions. . At Bay City Gym we strive to employ the most passionate, qualified and motivated staff to help guide you, answer your questions, support you through the rough patches and even train you if you choose!! .
