In depth herbal education | Every month, I contribute articles for The Herbarium - the membership only site - with @herbalacademy and it's one of my favorite monthly projects! Here is where I share REALLY detailed, in depth, and clinically relevant information and case studies on how to use herbal protocols for specific areas of health, including hypertension, IBS, circadian rhythm balance, sleep, and much more. I include my own clinical experience and detailed case studies for the herbalist looking to expand their knowledge in their own practice, and I contribute articles on HOW to become a more skilled clinician, too! • Some of my recents: 🌱 Hypertension: Case Studies & Herbal Considerations • 🌱 Setting Rates & Establishing Self-Worth as a Practitioner • 🌱 Clinical Practice: Asking Deep Questions & Holding Sacred Space • 🌱 Circadian Rhythm: Balance, Herbal Support & Lifestyle Triggers. And many more! • The Herbarium membership is a grand virtual herbarium PACKED with amazing herbal resources. As a member you'll be privy to an ever-expanding library of plant monographs, photographs, in depth articles, podcasts, videos, tutorials, and charts, all based on carefully gathered research and the wisdom of many contributing herbalists - including myself ☺️ • Visit the link in my profile to sign up for a yearly membership and learn, learn, learn!! ✨ Any specific herbal topics you'd like me to write about in there? Long days 👉🏻 Long herbal infusions 🌞 On the blog today I've got recipes for a summer solar infusion and an overnight herbal infusion using glorious summer time herbs from @mountainroseherbs! I've been sipping on some variation of these long infusions iced with a splash of honey, down by the river on the heavy, slow humid days here in Virginia. This juicy, bright red Solar Heart Opening Infusion includes hibiscus, yarrow, hawthorn and lemon balm. A strengthening, cardiovascular supporting tangy summer explosion of joy and solar energy ❤️ • Sip consciously, and enjoy in your favorite outdoor summer spots. Aloe vera | My favorite all season house plant that serves SO many purposes this summer season. 👩🏻🦰 As someone who burns just going out to get my mail, I use aloe on my skin, face and hair almost daily (not just if I have a sun burn!). Keeping an aloe plant in my house has been such a beautiful companion. I alternate between using the leaves of my own, and getting a few larger leaves at my local health food store. Scooping out all the inner gel, and using is straight on my skin, my face, and as a hair mask makes a huge difference in my skin and hair health, and has for over 20 years. (Bonus - I also put the inner leaf gel in my smoothies sometimes for digestive support, and to enhance the absorption of nutrients). Aloe is soothing, cooling, and moistening - the perfect balance of summer, which can be harsh, heating and drying. • See more in the blog archives about how I use aloe in my summer hair oils ✌🏼 what’s your favorite way to use aloe?? 🌱 • 📸 @willfrolicforfood
Connection | Did you know that when we feel a deep sense of connection with those / things we love, our nervous system, neural pathways and cardiovascular system are ALL triggered to respond positively? Throughout all of my botanical and nutritional research, one thing keeps coming up consistently: OUR BODIES ARE WIRED FOR BLISS. When we are in a state of homeostasis, calm, and most especially - safety and love - our entire body is enhanced to function at its highest potential. • Taking time *everyday* to experience deep, personal / nature connection is essential for the psyche, (especially when you're on your phone right now, right?). This can be as simple as sitting under your closest tree at home and enjoying it's luxurious shade. Taking 10 minutes to call your friend. Scheduling in daily walks and love connection with your dog / spirit animal (🙋♀️). Swimming in the river. Cloud gazing. Making music with someone. Hugging. • FOR YOU: ✨ Seek out activities (with people and things!) that engage you fully, where your senses are heightened in a sense of wonder and curiosity. ✨ Act in accordance with your moral good, ideally doing good for those around you, and those you love. ✨ Seek calm (from places or people - or pets!) when your nervous system is feeling fried or scattered. Ground into these calm connections, and accept them fully. • If you're really in the flow of deep connection, you'll lose track of time, you'll be smiling more, and your authentic nature will shine without restrain. Take note of when this is happening. Because these are your ideal moments, when your body is wired in bliss 🌸
Doing it right 🌱 I had the total joy of visiting @gaiaherbs farm in western North Carolina last week, and I left completely infused with inspiration ✨ • Over 45 different species of herbs are grown on the farm every year, totaling over 5 million individual plants on this 350 acre space. Growing in harmony with the land and fed by nearby clear mountain waters, the farm is *absolutely stunning*. The land is blanketed in rich alluvial soil, tended through organic methods and time honored traditions. The farm has been certified organic since 1997 by the Oregon Tilth, and enriched with biodynamic compost. Almost all of the herbs are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality, every season. And if you’ve ever tended a garden, you’ll know the connection hand harvesting infuses into soul. American skullcap, ashwagandha, astragalus, california poppy, chinese skullcap, Echinacea angustifolia, Echinacea purpurea, feverfew, gotu kola, grindelia, holy basil, lemon balm, nettle oats, parsley, passionflower, valerian, and vervain…all make a home here @gaiaherbs farm, and find their way into your homes and medicine cabinets through what I can only describe as botanical manufacturing/transformation perfection 🌿 • More on my visit to @gaiaherbs farm on the blog this weekend (LINK IN PROFIE). Really getting to know the brands that I've worked with for years (and especially those that are sponsors of my blog, like @gaiaherbs) is so special to me, and I'm happy as chickweed to take you along with me on my tour of the farm! 💚 📸 @willfrolicforfood #gaiaherbspartner #sponsored
