My beautiful sister that I couldn’t photograph when I was just a kid in highschool thinking an “expensive” camera was the secret to making people look good. Oh boy was I so wrong. @mjsuh90
Wrapped up such an edgy and moody shoot with this birthday girl celebrating turning 30. I think this was... Shar’s 5th or 6th time shooting with me and she told me “this was probably my favorite shoot.” Dear clients, it only gets better the second, third, and fourth time around at David Suh Photography. We were honestly just fooling around, sharing life stories, and trying a ton of experimental stuff today. But that’s when the best portraits are made. Can’t wait to show her these portraits!
David, why do you photograph women? ... is usually the question I get when I tell people I built a business around creating a luxury, celebrity photoshoot experience for the everyday women. And here's why. It all started with my passion for photography and making others feel good. I used to be that kid in high school who would try to make everyone happy. I was a people-pleaser. I would give free shoulder massages during breaks, carry a bag for someone, and be there for someone who needed support. Interestingly, one person I couldn't make happy was my older sister when it came to taking photos for her. I look short and chubby David. is what she would say. I brushed it off saying it must be the old Nokia phone she's making me use. Surprisingly enough, I encountered the same experience with girl friends at school when I picked up photography. Countless times, I would get a private message asking me to untag or delete a photo of them in my Pep Rally 2010 Facebook photo album. And I just wouldn't get it. I had an awesome high resolution digital camera. It had more technology. Then, it hit me. I wasn't listening. My friends didn't know how to pose, where to look, how to smile, or what to do. They felt awkward and embarrassed. And I was just there with my new camera being clueless. That's when I understood that capturing a beautiful photo of a woman wasn't about the camera... it's about so. much. more. All of a sudden I started seeing things that women tend to see. The make-up, the stray hairs, the style of the outfit, the pressure to look a certain way, and the harsh beauty standards for women. All of it. So I studied and practiced. I studied and practiced ways to pose and light women to highlight their best features. I immersed myself in fashion, color, and makeup. And most importantly, I learned to listen, empathize, and communicate to navigate this complex subject of beauty with women. I still remember the first time my client teared up seeing her photo. I can't believe I can look this beautiful she said. That's when I set out to create a business to serve the everyday women that have yet to see their true beauty.
It’s this gorgeous, hilarious, and empathetic woman’s birthday. She’s brilliant woman that helped me find my last two studio spots!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAR @agent.sy
This beautiful woman accomplished so much in 37 years. 8 years in the Air Force, became a stylist, an educator, and a salon owner. Now she has a beautiful family of three. I interviewed her today on the yet to launch pod and she picked up her 12x18 framed wall art for her new home ❤️
