Made it to Iceland 🇮🇸 Remember growing up and going to Discovery Zone as a kid? Iceland is like that for adults. A nearly uninhabited landscape full of the coolest scenery, things to climb on, waterfalls, glaciers, and beaches. Basically... I LOVE IT. #heleneiniceland
I was in Spain 3 days ago, Germany today, and leave for my 40th country today... ICELAND!!! (Insta Stories fam heard it first!) super pumped. Recs, blog posts, tips, how to not die, send ‘em my way. (Read @liveloveruntravel and @kaptain.kenny blog posts on it!) We are renting a van for 11 days to tour around the country! On a very different and warmer note I’ve got a new blog post with a guide to Barcelona. 💃🏼🇪🇸 #heleneinspain
Fall is my second favorite “F” word. Because... you know, “food.” 🍁🎃 P.S. pictured is Pumpkin Prosecco and it’s DELICIOUS.
The first rule (and maybe only) of being an influencer? Don’t call yourself one. 6 lessons I’ve learned from blogging after 6 years. Link in bio or stories 🤭 #heleneinbetween #heleneinspain
Today I went from Spain to Gibraltar (a British colony) where we ate fish and chips with a view of Africa on the horizon and Spain behind us. We went to the “Top of the Rock” and a monkey unzipped Michael’s bag. They are the only monkeys here and there are 280 that came over from Morocco (check Instagram stories 😂) Every time I travel I learn something new, duh. BUT lately I feel like my trips have really opened my eyes on different cultures, why Europe is shaped the way it is, and how unique this continent is. I’ve absolutely loved Southern Spain and didn’t quite realize just how wonderful it was until I got here. Monday we leave for a VERY different place, one I’ve never been to before!
HOW TO GET NO ONE IN YOUR PICS: 1. Get up at sunrise. Yes it sucks. Yes the lighting is awesome. 2. Go before closing. Right before places close means less people are around (which is what happened when we went to the castle (Burg Eltz) in Germany) 3. Crop. Crop the photo to eliminate people. There was a guy standing just outside the frame of my picture of sagrada familia )(see how I cropped the pic in stories) 4. Get up higher. The higher you go the easier it is to feature yourself with the background below. 5. Get off the beaten path. You’ll be shocked that if you just get off the main drag you’ll find empty streets 6. Don’t worry about it because sometimes I think people add a cool dimension to your pics For this picture I did none of the above. It had been a very rough morning (as in... our dog sitter bailed on us leaving our dogs alone!). After panicking and getting things straightened out we finally went out for the day. This picture was taken around noon and it was crowded. But all of a sudden it was like all the tour groups left and there were just a dozen or so people milling around. So: Don’t stress. Especially about Instagram pics. There are much bigger fish to fry. Again thank you to @preferredhotels for being the perfect spot - we walked here from our hotel 🙌🏻
Sun is down, freezing cold 💨I love Seville so much that I’m quoting a Travis Scott song #sickomode #heleneinspain
Things I’ve learned on this trip: 1. Spain produces HALF of the world’s olive oil (and I think it might all be here- miles and miles of olive trees everywhere). 2. On average, Spaniards devote 16 out of every 24 hours to leisure activities. 3. Spain is the least densely populated country in Europe- cue “Wide Open Spaces” 4. If you give Helene a glass of Sangria, she will drink it. Having the perfect respite at @preferredhotels has made this trip so stress free so we can enjoy all these lovely cities have to offer #thepreferredlife #heleneinspain
Alice in Wonderland goes to Spain 🙋🏼♀️🇪🇸 Took a drive to Nerja and ate a custard apple on the beach while watching the sunset. If Southern Spain isn’t on your list... put it on there! @preferredhotels #thepreferredlife #heleneinspain
Pairing my wine with the view 🍷 There’s something in the water (or maybe the wine) here in Southern Spain. It’s laidback but somehow lively. The food is fantastic and the streets are beautiful and clean. Parking is easy (highly important for a road trip) and the drive lined with palm trees and olive groves. It’s safe to say this might be my new favorite part of Spain. @preferredhotels thanks for the beautiful view #thepreferredlife #heleneinspain
Hello Andalusia! I’m in the south of Spain for the first time ever, doing a road trip🇪🇸 here’s a look at our itinerary (recs please): Málaga Granada Nerja Seville Jerez Vejer de la Frontera Tarifa Gibraltar Córdoba Ronda Arcos de la Frontera Grazalema Zahara de la Sierra WHOOO! Staying throughout the trip at the gorgeous @preferredhotels. Upon our arrival they greeted us with some delicious sweet Málaga wine, dessert, and my personal fave: Coca Cola light. Can’t wait to see all this region has to offer! #heleneinspain #thepreferredlife

It’s not all castles and cobblestones y’all. What I HATE about living abroad on the blog: heleneinbetween.com or link in bio. Eeeek. I’m going there. #heleneinbetween
Oh I’m sorry, did some one say October? 🎃🍁☕️I’ve got candles burning, pumpkin flavored things within reach, and dogs at both feet 😍 I’m spring. 3 full days at home (the most I’ve had since June!) and I’m SUPER PUMPED. I will never underestimate the power of R&R. And pumpkins. That helps too. #helenelovesgermany
I don’t always drink beer, but when I do it’s at Oktoberfest 🍻 Here with my best friends makes it all the more better. See more pics on @helenesula account! #helenelovesgermany
Feeling officially German at my 3rd (and possibly final!) Oktoberfest 🍻 Prost y’all! 🍻 People always ask if I’m homesick living abroad and I definitely do, but events like this just can’t be beat. #wiesen #helenelovesgermany #dallasdoesoktoberfest
I’m already nostalgic about this past summer. I don’t think I’ve ever slept so little (save for that one summer I met Michael at age 17) or done so much. Quick recap: Corfu, London, Vienna, all over Norway, road trip through the Mosel Valley in Germany, Edinburgh, London (again!), road trip through northern France, Zagreb, Hvar, Korcula, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Sarajevo, Mostar, Budapest, Eger, Porto, Lisbon, Lagos, Prague, Santorini, Crete, Barcelona... I know I’m forgetting something here. I’m tired, my diet has been shit, and I’m so dang happy. Next up: Oktoberfest with my best friends! 🎉 #heleneloveseurope
*one leaf falls*🍂 *whole house turns into Fall decor* There’s a new post on the blog about my recent reads... err listens. I didn’t actually turn a single page. Despite this photo 😂 What’s been your fav book recently? See my reviews by swiping up in stories or link in bio #heleneinbetween
There’s been a lot of discussion on Instagram authenticity, courses, and how to grow (check out @travelgirlsgo recent Instagram post). Regardless of what you think, I believe the most important part is to share something you care about. I feel most Instagram accounts are starting to look the same. This isn’t a bad thing, but I think the importance is to share what you’re passionate about and realize that Instagram isn’t the means to an end, but is something to help fill in the bigger picture. Why do you want to grow your Instagram? For me, it’s so I can grow my blog. What’s your reason, why do you want to grow, and what do you want to be known for? Focus on that and forget the rest (and try not to stress!) Post the picture with other people in it. Share the real moments. Post the silly, meaningful, or just because you freaking love the picture. #heleneinspain
Room with a view 🙌🏻 I told y’all a couple posts ago that Barcelona wasn’t my favorite the first time around. I can firmly say I’ve changed my mind (maybe it was Taco Bell..?🤦🏼♀️😂) But really, I think it had to do with the perfect stay @hoteljazzbcn. That breakfast was just 😍 I hold true to my life motto: I’ll try anything twice. #heleneinspain
Share a coke with Helene🥤Wandered around Parc Güell, hit up the beach, and ate at tapas at El Glop (per your recommendation!). But one of my favorite parts had been our stay at @hoteljazzbcn. Perfect location (right near Las Ramblas), sleek and modern, and maybe the best breakfast I’ve had at a hotel. Let’s just say I had my cake and ate it too! #heleneinspain Dress is linked in stories!
It’s so... Gaudi. The last time we were in Barcelona I didn’t love it. It was one of those trips where I was sick and it was super hot and we ate some really bad food. I’m happy to say that’s not been the case this trip. I’m discovering Barcelona in all its glory, walking La Rambla, and of course stoping to gawk at Gaudi’s master piece: Sagrada Familia. If you have any recs please let me know! #heleneinspain
The face you make when someone asks who pays for your life... I DO. I know that from social media I’m lounging on a beach or attending a festival but I spend a LOT of time working. Blogging as a full time job is wonderful but also means I have to work as much as possible. Because we put our lives online it seems like people feel like they have the right to unearth how you got to where you are. And I blog about it. All the time. But when it comes to financing life I find it just bonkers (are we still using that word?) that people feel entitled to ask those questions. What are your thoughts? Do you reveal all?
What’s the prettiest beach you’ve been to? Top of my list Ibiza in Spain, Korcula in Croatia, Nassau in the Bahamas, and basically all the islands of Greece. But can’t forget Seaside, Florida. ps craziest flight home ever. I’ve had some interesting flights as of late but this one tops them all: people were removed off my flight. Full details on my Insta story. #heleneingreece
When I was six I wrote my life goals on a napkin. Some of them have actually happened, others... not so much. But seeing the sunset in Santorini is officially crossed off the list! See the other 99 on the blog >>> #heleneinbetween #heleneingreece
On our first trip to Greece we were traveling with some guy friends and on our ferry from Santorini to Crete (the same one I’m taking today!) our friend was trying to hit on a girl. He bragged. “Oh yeah Santorini? I lived there once.” We were there for 12 daylight hours. We laughed so hard and every time we went somewhere, no matter the length of time, we’d say we “lived” there. I named my Facebook photo album from the trip “That Time We Lived In Europe.” Four years later I’m back in Santorini and now... I really do live in Europe! Life is weird. #heleneingreece #heleneandmichael
There are more churches in Santorini that homes 💒 oh, and more wine than water 🍷Most of the buildings are blue and white and the reason is the significance of the colors. Blue and White represent the colors of the Greek flag. White represents purity, and blue symbolizes the sky and the sea. 🇬🇷 🇬🇷 🇬🇷#heleneingreece
Well I broke my record of photos ever taken in one day: 487. Santorini you’re just too beautiful. Can I just post 1,000 more pics here? Anyone mind? Because I have an awful lot to share... #heleneingreece
There’s something about Greece. I was walking the empty streets at sunrise, taking notes via talk to text on my phone and I audibly said “WAIT... woah”. I started tearing up right then and there. I was taking notes so I could write a story on my thoughts on one of the most beautiful places in the world. And while I’d do that for fun anyway, it’s my job, too. I’m not one for patting myself on the back. But today I needed to recognize where my life is right now and how lucky I am to be living it. Thank you for being part of my journey and supporting me through it. And thank you Santorini for just making me so happy. I LOVE GREECE. #heleneingreece
2 YEARS ABROAD Y’ALL! Can’t believe we’ve been overseas for 2 years. It’s been a rollercoaster and full of wonderful places, and it’s totally NOT been what I expected. On the blog I’m sharing what I’ve learned, what led us to move, and why we’re moving back in one year 😢🙃😍 < current state of emotions. Link in bio or stories #heleneandmichael #heleneinbetween
PUMPKIN SPICE - the missing Spice girl 🎃 Well Germany has officially changed weather and I’m here for it 🙌🏻 I’m not drinking pumpkin spice lattes. Instead I’ve got the Pumpkin Prosecco at the Ludwigsburg pumpkin festival- the largest pumpkin fest in the WORLD! I went to not just one but two festivals yesterday. Pumpkin and the 250th anniversary Venetian festival. It was amazing. Check insta stories for all the action. 🎭 #helenelovesgermany
Just doing some light reading... (zoom in for the book 😂) Michael might need to be worried 🔪 But for real, I need a new book rec! I just finished “Something in the Water” and LOVED it. Love me a good psychological thriller with strong female leads. Any suggestions? Staying at the chicest @astenhotels Hotel Klarov in Prague. The other night we got a great view of fireworks over the city out our window 😍 I wonder if they mind if we just love in?!#heleneinczechrepublic #astenhotels #heleneandmichael
Today I strolled the rainy streets of Prague solo, camera around my neck. I listened to the light pitter patter of drizzle and honking cars. As I walked I thought to myself: this is bliss. I wasn’t stressed or anxious or worried or hurried. I tend to be a go-go-go traveler but sometimes you have to slow down, walk around, and get lost. You might just find a hidden gem, like the best Trdelnik ever. #heleneinczechrepublic @astenhotels #astenhotels
Happy as a clam to be back in Prague 🇨🇿🚲 This is my third time visiting and I’m staying at one of my all time fav hotels in Europe: Hotel Klarov with @astenhotels. It’s hard for me describe this place but I’ll just let the views do the talking (check my insta stories👀👀👀). We are here for a few days so any tips on doing things that are off the beaten path (since we’ve been before) let me know in the comments! #heleneinczechrepublic #astenhotels
If you were to tell me 5 years ago I’d be living in Germany I would have laughed and rolled my eyes. We are coming up on two years abroad and I feel like I’ve been here for years and other times like it’s been 5 minutes. I’m already getting nostalgic about leaving. BUT I am looking forward to what’s to come. I’m not 100% certain of my life plan but I think it’s going to be pretty interesting to say the least. #helenelovesgermany #sulakids
Well, I hosted my first trip ever. It was nothing like I expected in the best way possible. I met people from all over the world, all different backgrounds, ages, and careers. Yet somehow we all developed an unbreakable connection. We laughed until we cried. We traveled to some of the coolest places in Europe. We talked about our dreams and goals. We danced and sang and played games. We didn’t get enough sleep because we were having too much fun. We learned from and sought ways to help each other. I think travel teaches you to open yourself to new opportunities and learn about the world around you. But it also helps you form bonds with people that might not otherwise be possible. This trip to Portugal brought together people that might not normally be in each other’s live that will now be there forever. I don’t think you can put a price on that. I’ve done a lot of travel this year but this trip has been one of my all time favorites. Thank you to those that came, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and how incredible you made this trip. #helenemademeportugal 🙋🏼♀️P.S. there will be another trip in the works for 2019!!! @trovatrip @laurelwilson @_laurengarin @sabhal @_bonniebyrne @thesheapproach @ksprats @healthkickmidwest @pearljeetkaur @julie_holder @brinkley_and_me @jbo_89 @jess_steinmetz @rods_and_cones @nickpoggi @the_optimusklein @counselorkathy @laeolajoy @lainaturner
Raise your hand if you’re sick of me looking longingly over cliffs at beaches 🙋🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️Can’t help it y’all. Adding Lagos to my list of fav beaches: beautiful water, cool rock formations, super soft sand, and great beach bars near by that serve buy one get one free frozen daiquiris. Just saying. #helenemademeportugal
The architecture in Porto is phenomenal 🙌🏻🇵🇹 Around 11,000 azulejo tiles cover the outside of the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso Church and you’ll find them all over the city. To be honest, I knew Portugal would be pretty, but I didn’t realize it had so many hidden gems. Porto is bursting with them. #helenemademeportugal #heleneinportugal
WINE NOT. 🍷🍷🍷The past few months have been a whirlwind of travel. It’s been fun but exhausting. Today has refueled my fire. This group trip has been incredible. If you haven’t heard I’m hosting a trip for 10 days in Portugal with some awesome women with @trovatrip. Today’s wine tour through Douro Valley was amazing. I laughed so hard I cried. TWICE. This has definitely been one of my fav trips this year and it’s all thanks to the women I’m with. #helenemademeportugal #heleneinportugal
