The one image in my portfolio that inexplicably moves me.
It’ll probably ruin my grid, but I just wanted to share a sneak peek of my new site! Launch is on Friday, so T-minus three days and counting...
There are a lot of things I love about what I do--I love golden hour (but is that a surprise? I mean, hello, SUNSHINE Picture Project). I love creating beautiful backlit pictures! I get super excited when I find a pose that really works well for a couple and they look Ah-MAZE-ING. I love learning and improving and watching my work evolve. I love the challenge that photography and business bring into my life! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT. You know what? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ None of that compares with the joy I feel from knowing, loving and serving the faces on the other end of the lens. Mondays are for getting things done, so throw your hair up in a messy bun (or not, if it's short like mine!), blast your favorite upbeat song (still The Greatest Showman over here!), and let's work it!
It’s a beautiful day for a wedding! I’m in Glendale, AZ and I’m super excited for two reasons—first I get to second shoot with my new friend, @jennifer.markle (woop woop!) AND even though it’s mid-May in the Phoenix Valley, it looks like it’s not gonna break 100 today—couldn’t ask for more!
Have you read #girlwashyourface yet? If not, rundontwalk to the nearest bookstore! Or better yet, download it from @audible so you can hear @msrachelhollis read her own heartfelt words the way she meant for them to be heard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instagram doesn't allow enough characters to praise this book enough--it's bursting with goodness! This gem is on repeat in my head right now, as my new website waits in the wings for launch day: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am successful because I have never once believed my dreams were someone else's to manage. That's the incredible part about your dreams...nobody gets to tell you how big they can be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you, Rach--today of all days, I needed that!
Two and a half years ago, I was going strong as a family portrait photographer with almost no desire to venture into weddings beyond the one or two small events under my belt. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then I got a wedding inquiry from this gal here and even from our phone consultation, I could just tell I was going to love her! And I found myself wanting to serve her well. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Between booking and the wedding date, we were in frequent touch with each other. We talked about how the ceremony start time would affect her pictures and the benefits of a First Look. I traveled the 60+ miles of distance between us to make sure her aunt's back yard would work well for portraits, and again later to take test shots at the venue and help her decide the best direction and layout for seating at the ceremony. Any time she had a thought or question or concern, she emailed me, and any time I thought of something that might benefit her, I did the same. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We made arrangements for one last get-together only days before the wedding, to work through last-minute details and make sure we were all on the same page. As I sat with Ashley and Jason at their dining room table and walked them through the ceremony, I found myself choking back tears--everything had just become so real, even for me! These two people I had grown to love and care about were getting married! I couldn't help but feel a swell of emotion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The opportunity to work with Ashley completely changed my perspective about shooting weddings. I no longer saw them as scary or high-pressure; instead I could see them as an incredible opportunity to get to know, care about and endlessly serve my clients. I could spend months and months building a lasting relationship with them. I could see myself as their friend, and I'm a person who will happily bend over backwards to serve my friends. You guys, at the end of the day, that's the only reason I do this. ❤️ HMUA: @jinnyriddlemakeupstudio
I didn’t know three and a half years ago when we sat on these steps to have family pictures taken that this would become THE ICONIC PICTURE—you know, the one that’s how your kids will forever be frozen in your memory. It doesn’t matter how big they get, those will always be their smiles and sweet cheeks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you have an iconic picture of your children, or your own mother? Tell me what you love about it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Happy Mother’s Day, y’all. 💛 📷: @marquettelaree
