Exbury has a rich history. In the 102 years the gardens have been here, they've seen many changes to modern life in the 20th and 21st centuries. Perhaps one of the gardens' most notable moments is during the Second World War, where Exbury House and the grounds were commissioned as stone frigate HMS Mastodon. . This plaque was placed at the most southern part of the gardens to commemorate all of the British Royal Navy sailors and marines that lost their lives during World War Two. .
