#TonysTuesdays – Just shy of 40 years ago, while attending WWU on her way to an accounting degree, Carmen picked up a work study position at Tony’s Coffeehouse and Roastery in Fairhaven. Back then the entire operation was run out of a shoebox and mysteriously cappuccinos were ordered on blind faith. Carmen is more than the eminent accounting veteran of the business - she is the ever-patient, ever-accommodating rock of her own family, as well as ours, which is dearly appreciated in an industry that evolves swifter than some. Crime shows, medical dramas, and a 15 year old son take up the majority of her leisure time these days. If the music coming from the production warehouse has a danceable beat, you can be sure to see Carmen enter with a flourish and greet the packing floor with sashaying grace.
We’re proud to partner with our local Whatcom County Meals on Wheels program. For the entire month of March, we’re donating $1 from every bag of Songbird Blend sold. Meals on Wheels plays a vital role in our community by providing nutritious meals for homebound seniors while also being a friendly face for some of our most isolated residents. If you live in Whatcom County, you can pick up a bag of Songbird Blend at many local retailers, including Haggen and the Co-Op. And of course, you can place an order directly from the roastery at tonyscoffee.com. Want to find out more about Meals on Wheels or volunteer? Visit: https://whatcomcoa.org/meals-on-wheels-and-more/

#TonysTuesdays – For all the moving parts required to maintain a bustling coffee operation, which serves customers far and wide, the need for a doggedly-determined, unflappable and unstoppable, cross county delivery legend, cannot be overstated. Tim is, and has been for 15 years, the distillation of the PNW’s hardcore-cycling-and-lake-swimming-spirit, infused with Kraut Rock, Funk Fusion, and a heart which beats to Neal Pert’s bass drum. When Tim arrives at the Tony’s warehouse, he bounds from his jumpseat like the Tasmanian Devil, throwing out high-fives and trading musical insights as he packs his truck full of freshly roasted coffee. I cannot conceive of a forecast capable of slowing this lovable warrior’s progress, and we at Tony’s are grateful to have him on our side.
Introducing Ethiopia Banko Dhadhato Natural. 🍫🍒☕ We found a deliciously fruit-forward coffee for February’s featured single origin. Notes of cherry and cocoa in the cup will have you falling in love with each sip. Available in 12oz and 5lb options at tonyscoffee.com. More info on this coffee: Ethiopia Banko Dhadhato natural is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the Banko Dhadhato Cooperative in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. The cooperative currently has 177 members. In 2010, the cooperative joined the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU), an umbrella organization established in 2002 to support a sustainable coffee supply from cooperatives in the Gedeo region. There are twenty six other cooperatives affiliated with the YCFCU, totaling more than 45,000 members. This full natural offering is dried in the sun on raised beds and showcases fruit notes such as watermelon, navel orange, and sweet cherry.
Love coffee. 💕☕️
#TonysTuesdays – An all-around wizard of distribution, with a little over two years under his belt at Tony’s, hailing originally from Madison, Wisconsin, the yarn spinning, the hydroponic monstera bearing, the alpaca yearning, the Pokemon go-getting, the pop blasting, logistical mail-smith himself, Andy Lager. Being able to maneuver Monday morning order volume is no small feat, and it’s one which Andy has handled, and continues to handle with diligence and modesty. 🧙☕
Farmers like Pak Budiman in Ketiara, Sumatra are guaranteed a fair price for their crop when they join their local co-op. Price instability season to season can wreck a farmer’s livelihood. When you buy @fairtradecertified coffee, you’re helping ensure a more sustainable global coffee supply.
#TonysTuesdays – Charley and the Coffee Factory. If this charming face atop debonair attire strikes a chord of familiarity in you, it may well be that you have enjoyed a steamed espresso beverage concocted and served by him in the recent past. Yes, Charley followed the barista path for some time, which led him to latte art training sessions at Tony’s HQ. While surveying the bustling warehouses, he developed a fondness and yearning for life on the other side of the bean. Though he’s only been with us since October, his passion for all aspects of the coffee craft have quickly brought him up to speed and it’s hard to say if we more greatly enjoy his attention to detail or heartwarming smiles. Charley enjoys domestic bliss with his wife and cat, simmering wild mushroom stews, and recording music under the moniker ‘Serfs Up’.

After last night’s snowfall, we didn’t have to think very hard about what to brew this morning at the roastery. ☕️🥶
New Year, New Coffee! ☕ We're excited to introduce our first single origin of 2020, Rwanda Bumbogo. Notes of honey and grapefruit with a hint of baking spice will have you whistlin’ out the door in the morning. Head over to tonyscoffee.com to order this new coffee in 12oz and 5lb options. About this coffee: The Bumbogo coffee washing station was built in January 2017 in Gakenke, a district in Rwanda’s Northern Province known for its high quality coffee. In recent years, Gakenke has produced several winning lots in the Cup of Excellence. During its first year in production, Bumbogo faced a number of challenges and wasn’t able to begin production until the end of April, leading to lower outputs than forecasted. “But here at Muraho, we don’t give up,” said the company, “and this year our Bumbogo families more than doubled their production!” Bumbogo currently processes coffee from 523 producers. This lot has loads of sweetness and a juicy acidity.
