Do you ever feel like you are stuck in a place where your work and skills are up to par, but you aren’t making the sales you want? You could have some beliefs about how marketing and a creative career mix. Why does this happen? We see other artists with seemingly unbounded passion and we think we should be that way. Or, we hear speeches from people who have made it and they tell us it “just happened” for them—so it will happen that way for us, too. Our internal dialog creates “rules” for ourselves about how we create, how we relate to money and sales, and how artistic success should come to be. But, honestly, waiting for success leaves a LOT of money on the table that your art business could be making right NOW. Do you relate to any of the following beliefs about marketing that hold artists back from realizing their full career success? ✨ Learn exactly why these beliefs are so limiting in the full article linked in our bio! ✨

“Creative Mind at Rest” by @jennalineweaver. A fantastic portrayal of a young artist’s mind! Jenna finds that, similar to literature and poetry, painting is a powerful way to express thoughts, feelings and struggles. “We all experience life and the accompanying range of emotion and struggle. Other people can recognize these things on canvas and respond to them in their own way,” she reminds. In Jenna’s mind, a painting is successful if, after that first impression, each successive visit becomes more meaningful. There’s simply no replacement for the beautiful outdoors. (Something both COVID and devastating weather events have reminded us at each and every turn this past year.) And it’s a feeling that feeds our Discovery Featured Artist of the Week @jessicasingermanfineart’s work! “I have discovered that, no matter where I am, outdoor activity and making artwork make me feel most like myself: whole and engaged with my environment.” “All of our senses are awakened when we spend time outside,” reminds Jessica. “The rhythm of steps while hiking, the whir and clicks on a bike ride, the changing shapes of light and shadow between trees, the sound of birdsong—the memory of all these impacts on my senses feeds into my process of abstraction.” “I am also deeply influenced by our changing landscape, such as a favorite field being dug up and built into a housing development. Through the process of making artwork and sharing it with others, I can turn a negative experience such as the one just referred to into something beautiful.” Ultimately, Jessica’s hope is that through her artwork she can inspire people to return to the outdoors and build meaningful connections with others there. Are you inspired by the poetry of nature, too? Then head to Discovery (link in bio) to see the rest of Jessica’s lively, meaningful abstractions - they are featured there all week long! - - - - - #artworkarchiveartist #originalart #artworkarchive #artrepreneur #abstractpainting #abstractart #abstractlandscape #natureart #modernabstract #ncartist #landscapelover #landscapeart #contemporaryart #colorfulart #workingartist #artinventory #artbusiness #artbiz

Meet Stan, Buster, Harold, and Charlie! 🦉These handsome guys come to us from stippling artist @garytwilcockson! Stippling, dotting, or pointillism (whatever people want to call it, jokes Gary) is time consuming, and takes a lot of concentration and patience, he admits. “I want people to look at my work from a distance and not know how it's created. I prefer them to admire the subject and see the complexity of a bird's feather structure, and the stippling technique allows me to achieve this,” explains Gary. Goal achieved! 🙌 We almost can’t believe how intricate and finely detailed Gary’s stippling work is—and Instagram definitely doesn't do it justice. Go see the close-ups on his portfolio! “Forever is composed of nows,” once wrote Emily Dickinson. And the work of Dennis Anderson (@adennispaints) captures exactly this sentiment. “My desire is to elevate the activities of daily life, those mundane scenes where the moment becomes the subject,” describes Dennis. “I like the balancing of what is familiar with the thought of what was seen.” What Dennis is searching for in a particular scene—whenever he ventures out into the Portland area—is a feeling, some sense of place. Or, maybe it's just happening upon the way sunlight defines forms and creates shadows. That makes his paintings more interpretive naturalism than recordings. A remembrance of his impression. Does the mere utterance of the two words "artist statement" have you slamming your computer shut and running far from your pens and pencils to a place where artist statements don't exist? After all, you are an artist—not a writer—right? Wrong. Well, sort of wrong. Of course, the focus of your career is your artwork. But, you need to be able to communicate about your work with clarity, focus, and passion. If you can't take the time to explain yourself and your vision in simple terms, don't expect anyone else to take the time to understand it—let alone buy it. So whether you’re in need of an update or simply starting from scratch, make the most out of your statement by avoiding these common downfalls - read the full article at the link in our bio!

Who else loves the creative crossover between art and music? 🎶 Inspired by a friend that plays the cello, Marcella Hayes Muhammad uses her signature style of “Plastic Space” abstraction to capture the feeling of this music and the musician as she performed on stage. Her style is inspired by the cubist style of Pablo Picasso and a flow of forms using light and color, used to tell a story (either historical, current, or cultural) with figures that are both recognizable but abstracted. Her art reflects current events, her environment, culture, research and an interest in science and history. Hoping that “Mello Cello” and the rest of Marcella’s work jazzes up your week! If you like art that challenges norms, encourages dialogue, unearths the truth, recognizes emotion, inspires—then @xavierdanielsart is your guy. ✨ In creating his art, Xavier is actively thinking about the perception of black men and attempting to be a catalyst for a different view on the black male experience. According to Daniels, the conversations happening in popular culture about black males leave them invisible in discussions about themselves. The portraits of black men Daniels creates are large in an effort to symbolically assert black male presence into those conversations. Expanding the personages associated with black men as mere athletes, sex symbols, absentee fathers, and thugs, his goal is to give the world a different look at black men. Using fashion and the avant-garde as inspiration, Daniels allows his models to strike poses that are not typical of black men. Viewing black men in this way makes them vulnerable to the artist’s brushstrokes and the viewer’s eye. The calm, poised, and comfortable expressions on the subjects’ faces allude to the inner life of black men as susceptible to humanity as much as any other people. You are not going to want to miss the portfolio and story of Xavier Daniels on Discovery! (He’s a former firefighter, plus a @morehouse1867 & @scaddotedu grad!)
