  • I’m now 6 months pregnant with a beautiful child and we don’t know what the sex of the baby is. It doesn’t matter to us and we like surprises! ;) It was a bit strange to have to turn away from the screen during the 20-week ultrasound, but we did it! Everyone around us and on social is so curious, just like us. Haha! So much speculation! ;) ⠀
⠀
I’m feeling good. From the first moment of my pregnancy onward, I only had one day of nausea. I’m also not incredibly tired. I think I might have felt more tired at times before I had this little one in my belly (I do tend to get Braxton-Hicks contractions now at the end of the day and when the baby is kicking - I take this as a sign to stop working for the day). Maybe it’s because I have adjusted my priorities and that I am producing extra adrenaline. This has meant that I sleep less than the average pregnant woman (who doesn’t already have kids, haha) does, but I make a point of going to bed by 11 every night so that I get my eight hours in. ⠀
⠀
I already had a visible belly by the time I was three months along and now it’s nice and pointy and high (they say this comes from having strong abdominal muscles, haha). It’s growing fast now. I started feeling the little one move back in mid-April and that movement has only increased since then. The connection is already so strong. I sing and talk a lot to my ‘bump’, dance often and try to eat as healthily as possible. All the nutrients I take in go to the baby, too. In the beginning of my pregnancy, I was at a bit of a loss in terms of what to eat. I really only wanted fatty, heavy food and even meant (which I don’t usually eat very often). I didn’t resist this and did my best to still drink my daily apple cider vinegar and my fresh vegetable juice with celery, cucumber, fennel, lemon and beet (iron!).... • Another version of my kickstart breakfasts! You really should make this breakfast for tomorrow morning, so yumm. Chia seeds make this recipe nice and airy (and they’re full of omega 3 fatty acids which is also really good for my bump!) and the cashews make it creamy. I like to make this the night before so that I have a delicious breakfast waiting for me in the fridge in the morning. You can find the recipe on renskroes.com (link in bio) ;) Hope you like it! Enjoy your Sunday lovelies. -X- Rens @powerfoodies | Recept ook in Nederlands natuurlijk, want mijn blog is in twee talen 💛 #renskroes Picture: @CameronStudio1

  • Do you try to see things from other people's point of view? 👇🏽⠀
⠀
“Putting yourself in someone else's shoes will greatly broaden your worldview. You'll see things from a different perspective, and understand why some people think the way they do. Trying to truly understand where they're coming from is a sign of respect. You acknowledge their right to think differently, and recognize that you might have something to learn from them. That's the first step to forming stronger bonds with those around you. You have to keep constantly challenging yourself, and seeing the world through different eyes is a great way to do that @powerfoodies

  • I grew up as a privileged white country girl in Fryslân with open-minded parents. Nothing was seen as weird or unusual. They always said: “it doesn’t matter who or what u come home with. Everything is fine by us, as long as you feel good about it.” This is the openness with which I entered the world. I have always been interested in other cultures and have friends from other cultures and backgrounds and if I unconsciously made a bad ‘joke’, I would hear about it. Every day my eyes opened wider, but the biggest eyeopeners for me were working in a school for asylum seekers when I was 17 years old, and working with teenage mothers in Brooklyn while studying international community development in New York in my twenties. I kept asking people with different ethnicities questions and, in doing so, was confronted with the fact of the undeniable privilege I have experienced, as a white girl. I also became aware of the (subconscious) prejudices that I still carried with me.I immersed myself in this subject then and continue to do so to this day. We might not want to hear it, but racism persists. What happened last week happens every day, we just don’t always see it.It is ignored. We are brainwashed (in part by the media). We are afraid. We avert our eyes. And listen, we discriminate here, in the Netherlands, too.Though I don’t personally know how it feels to be discriminated against in this way, I hear it, see it and feel it when I’m with my partner, my love. Inequality between black and white people is still substantial, really substantial. So this is what I can say to myself as a white, privileged girl and to my fellow white friends: be aware of your white privilege; say something when you see someone who doesn’t share that privilege being disadvantaged; see people as individuals; ask questions; try to understand; donate; educate yourself (for example read: Hallo Witte Mensen by Anousha Nzume / watch: the Netflix series, Dear White People and When they See Us / have other tips? Post below) and VOTE! Stay active. Don’t turn away. Keep working toward change. Even when the insta-hype subsides. I’m here to listen, learn, reflect, support and work.LOVE RENS

  • THE BEST BANANABREAD! 🍌 I’m currently addicted to eating this delicious, moist, sweet banana bread. I added a couple of teaspoons of my Golden Spices Mix to it (link in bio & in stories) and it makes the flavor even more special (and makes the bread healthier).
Tip: has your banana bread been lying around a little too long and getting a bit stale? Try toasting it using a panini grill or in a pan. You’ll breathe new life into it and add even more flavor. It gets a bit crispy… And maybe, secretly, even a bit more tasty. Enjoy @powerfoodies! -x- Rens ⠀

Heerlijk knapperig! En stiekem nóg lekkerder ; ) -x- Rens #plantbased

  • HOMEMADE TWIX BARS 💛 | During the first few months of my pregnancy, I didn’t feel much like eating anything sweet. I really enjoyed sour smoothies and could eat pasta every single day. Now that I’m approaching the five-month mark, I’ve started enjoying salads more (thank god!) and sweet baked goods – which is why I’ve started baking more often again. Two weeks ago I made these sweet bars and they turned out (after two failed attempts at getting the crust right – yes, it’s part of the process!) pretty great. They’re a good excuse for you to get into the kitchen and treat yourself to something delicious. Hit the recipe link in my bio & enjoy! -x- Rens @powerfoodies ⠀ ⠀
