I started offering mentoring sessions last year after a few of you asked. This photo is from Rachel’s recent session. I’ve always enjoyed teaching and speaking (at one point I aspired to be a college professor because I had some wonderful ones) but working with other photographers and helping them advance their businesses has been even more fun than I expected. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I always tell young photographers that I believe one of the things that most quickly advanced my business was investing in quality education and surrounding myself with other talented creatives. Industry folks like Pearl Walthall and Eric Grant both served as tremendous mentors when I was young. As I began diving into wedding photography, I attended @lukeandcatphoto’s workshop and it was incredibly eye opening. I remember feeling like one of the most inexperienced photographers there, but I got so much out of it! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My point is that investing in education will often provide returns to you that far outweigh the financial investment. I’d love to hear if you’ve had a similar experience or ways that you've invested in your business that's had wonderful returns!
In the past I’ve use my Instagram feed to promote my weddings. But as my promotional video work becomes a larger portion of my business, I’m beginning to think I need to share more of my videos on Instagram. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So tell me - do you want to see more of my promotional/ag video work on this page? Or should I create a separate page for that work? I’m genuinely curious to hear your thoughts! Photo taken at Lazy JB Angus in Montrose, Colorado.
My goal for 2020 is for my business to look a lot different than it did in 2019. Did I enjoy 2019? Absolutely. I have the best clients and have worked on too many wonderful projects to count. But honestly, I have to reel it back a bit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been spending a lot of time in God’s word lately and he’s been reminding me that my purpose goes beyond my work. He has blessed my business tremendously over the last few years and while I absolutely love what I do, I know I work too many hours and put a lot of stress on my mind and body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In 2020 I’ll be taking on fewer weddings for not only my sake, but also so I can better serve my clients. I expect my video work will increase and you’ll still see me traveling often, but behind the scenes I’ll be working for more balance in my life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So if you’re interested in working with me this year, let’s chat soon. I’ll only be taking on a certain number of projects this year and some months are already completely booked. If I tell you I can’t take on your wedding or project this year, don’t take it personally. I wish I could do them all but this will be a year of balance for me so I can be the best version of myself for my family and my clients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you working on some big changes in 2020? Or have any tips for finding more balance? Leave me a comment! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸 @jenneferwilson Thanks for giving us wonderful photos so I’m continually reminded of that hubby and two pups I want to spend more time with 😄
Beautiful florals and venues are great, but the wedding days with heartfelt, genuine emotion and love are by far the best. Will and Leah had me tearing up all day and their first look goes down as one of my favorites. I'll forever be thankful that I get to be a part of these moments.
I made it home last night from the @styledshootsacrossamerica conference in Dallas, TX and it's taking a lot of willpower for me to not spend my entire day going through these photos. I mean, what a dreamy venue, stunning model, and all around amazing event. It was just what I needed to give my creative juices a jumpstart. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Also, anyone else getting major Margot Robbie vibes from @brailey_smith7?? I could not stop thinking about this during the shoot! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Host: @styledshootsacrossamerica Venue: @theolanaTX Concept & Planning: @heatherbengeevents Florist: @Intrigue_designs Stationery: @prettywrittenthings Cake: @butterflyCakery Hair & Makeup: @SunkissedandMadeup Gown: @WeddingsbyDebbie Accessories: @EtoileFineJewelry Linens: @NuageDesignsinc Styling: @ashevents Décor: @GoldDustEventCo Rentals: @Marquee_Rents Models: @brailey_smith7, @spencer_stegall #SSAAconference #StyledShootsAcrossAmerica
One year. Not sure where the time has gone, but one fun year of having this man as my husband has gone by. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is the first weekend in the last month that I’ve had off from weddings. As much as I love shooting weddings, weekends like this are a reminder that I need to slow down and enjoy the people around me, especially this wonderful man by my side. Here’s to a wonderful weekend in West Texas celebrating this life we’re building 💛 📷 @jenneferwilson
