Today between 2:00-6:00 the Salvation Army was at 1st Reformed United Church of Christ distributing clothing, bedding and cleaning supplies to the flood Victims of Hamburg. We decided to perform a Random Act of Kindness and purchased some bleach and Borax to contribute to their efforts. Is it great to see the community coming together to help these neighbors in need.
Our VP of Retail, Hope Pearson, stopped by the Hope Rescue Mission of Reading today to perform a Random Act of Kindness. Cindy explained how they were going to be renovating the kitchen and would be in need of paper products and plastic utensils while the work is going to be done, so we delivered paper plates, bowls, cups and utensils. Serving three meals a day, they will certainly go through these products!
When we hear about youth in our community taking collections for some of the same causes we support with our Random Acts of Kindness, we can't help but to be a part of it. Chase, Daniel and their Chief Instructor, Wendy from Elite Leadership Martial Arts Academy set a goal to collect 250 pair of socks by August 15th, to donate to Opportunity House. Fleetwood Bank donated 182 pair to their cause, which put them at over 900 pair of socks!! They still have over a week to go, and we are positive that they will reach their newly adjusted goal of 1000. Way to go!
From serving 150+ meals four days a week in their soup kitchen, to distributing food from their food pantry to over 300 different families each month, to providing clothing to individuals and families in need, New Journey Community Outreach provides so much for people in poverty. We saw a post on their Facebook page that their pantry shelves were sparse, so we couldn't think of a better organization to surprise with a Random Act of Kindness. It was so great talking to Sue and Denise, and hearing about all they do for our community. To learn more, visit www.njcoinc.org.
