The Wedding World, like the entire world, has pressed pause. I am sending all my beautiful couples and industry friends BIG LOVE in this crazy time, as they let go of plans and dreams. You are all showing so much grace and it warms the cockles of my heart 💕. . We will reunite on the flip-side of this madness, and when we do we will be celebrating love like NEVER BEFORE 💃♥️💥. . As of the most recent update our government permits that you may have a Micro Wedding with (strictly) just 5 people present; 2 lovers, 1 celebrant and 2 witnesses. Elopements are a truly magical thing and if this was/is your dream it is a great time to chase it... Really though, I think it is time for everyone to do their all to protect the people they love, and the people that other people love (the elderly built the world we live in!)...it is time to take a collective breather and do the things we never have time for in our hectic lives. . To my darling couples being forced to postpone (and every single one of you with such courage and grace!)...on the other side of this your love party will look like THIS 🔝, and your hearts will be bursting with the joy of it all. . Throwing it back to the light and breezy days when Kat married Jesse and everyone was was squished together in happiness and love 💕💕💕. . The Team. . Previous story continued (and why you find us back on Australian soil). . That drive was spent letting go of dreams, with an occasional silent tear (one for the cliffs of Ireland, one for the farm in Portugal...more than one for the moments lost with people we love). The sun was setting over the fields and it was beautiful - and what I felt finally was a deep gratitude for the moments we had experienced over the last months. For the family and friends. For the love. Saying goodbye to my grandparents in Berlin - them in their apartment us in the stairway outside. Not able to hold them. That was hard...and strange. An image I won’t forget. . We flew via Moscow...a doctor came into the plane and scanned for temperatures. Next stop Tokyo...so relieved to make it half way. With an 8 hour stopover we decided to spend it outside rather at the airport, the airport felt too crowded even though 90% of people were wearing masks. The streets were eerily empty and it was rare to see a person without a mask. I slept on the stairs of a temple while Udo took the girls to eat...too exhausted to enjoy Japan. . We arrived in Cairns at 4:00am and the musty smell at the airport was welcome for a change...the tropics in summer. It’s isolation for the next couple of weeks...but it feels like the whole world is going in to isolation. And as we get pulled apart from the people we love we realise more than ever how important they are to us. There is so much to be grateful for ♥️. . (P.S Let’s do everything we can to keep the oldies and fragile safe). Xx . . . .
HI HONEYS, I’M HOOOOOMEEE! . A week ago today we were having dinner with friends on a little island in the north of Germany. The girls were in their second week of school and had learnt the way to school on their bikes...they were getting their heads around learning in a completely different language and we spent hours sitting together helping with homework - often frustrated, sometimes fun. . We were living in the little cottage that I moved into with Udo when we first fell in love...tiny, cosy, perfect for the kind of intense quality time together we had planned. Some days it felt too small for us and we would flee into the forest, or to sand dunes and beach, and let that North Sea wind whip us back into shape. Catching up with precious old friends was HEAVEN and our hearts were full (still are very full). . We had been watching the news (sometimes) and felt for all the people affected by the rapid spread of the Coronavirus...worried for the parents and grandparents who were feeling the fear on a different level. . The circumstances changed so quickly...the schools closed overnight and it was only a matter of days before many other places (including airports) would close too. It meant there would be no work and potentially no way of getting home when it was time. On Sunday morning we sat down to make a decision I didn’t want to make and my head honestly felt like it would it would explode from the pressure. We looked at flights and were reluctant to press the button to purchase them for fear of the closures and cancellations that were happening at airports all over the world. But we did push that button and Udo had his last day at work while I started packing and cleaning frantically. That same day the officials made the call that Sylt was going into lockdown and all non-residents were to leave the following day. . It took us hours to get off the island with the masses of evacuating holiday-makers. We spent that day driving to Berlin. There was a brief roadside meeting with Udo's parents to swap bags and say goodbye...from 2 metres apart (that is now the recommended distance in Germany between youth and elderly). ...to be continued.
