Kabuki Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder believed to affect approximately 1 in 32,000 births worldwide. Symptoms can range from distinctive facial features, growth delays, varying degrees of intellectual disability, skeletal abnormalities, low muscle tone, feeding difficulties, heart defects, cleft palate , visual and hearing impairments, seizures, autistic like behaviors and short stature. In 2010, the first of two genes to be responsible for Kabuki was discovered, and there are likely to be additional genes not yet discovered. As with many rare disorders, patients are often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years leaving patients and families without answers, medical treatment, financial and emotional support that they need. My niece was diagnosed with Kabuki in 2017 at 11 months old, a very early diagnoses in the community. She was able to receive the medical treatments, surgeries, physical and occupational therapy that she needs to have the best quality of life. We are fortunate to have the medical resources that we do in Pittsburgh. Let’s raise some funds to support other parts of the community not as fortunate. @beckibeam Bikes are limited*. “Kidney disease is a serious disease that affects over 10% of our population It personally affects me because it has taken a toll on my mother, my grandmother and my aunt. My mom will be the third member of her family to receive a kidney, and my father will be donating his as part of a kidney swap program. After many emotional highs and lows, my mom will finally receive a kidney transplant on October 17. To help spread awareness for the disease I have created a page to receive donations in my family’s honor for the National Kidney Foundation. I also was generously gifted a Cardio and Cocktail event from the wonderful humans at Urban Elements & Cycology.” - @colleentague Join us November 3rd for Cardio & Cocktails benefiting the National Kidney Foundation! . .
