We’re giving away a custom-built website perfect for photographers & creatives. One of our projects for the year so far was to build a brand-spanking-new website for Emilio’s photography business (you can check it out here if your curious!). We just launched his new site this week, and while it’s so exciting to have brought a fresh new brand to life for him, we thought it would be a shame to let his original website go to waste… so we thought why not make someone’s day and give the website away to one of you. So here’s the deal, we’re giving one lucky person a custom-built website that ticks all the boxes you can expect from Institute of Code: - it’s built in modern code, so it’s lightning fast and reliable - It’s responsive (aka mobile-friendly) - All the technical stuff is already SEO optimised - (even if you don’t know a single line of code) We made this with some pretty cool features that can really help a creative’s site pop including: - interactive pop-up galleries to show off your work - filterable portfolio page to explore all the categories of your work - Dynamic layouts that adapt to projects that are portrait, landscape, square or a mix of everything - Auto-updating instagram feed to show off your style - Dedicated services pages (that automatically pull in relevant projects below) - Ability to easily add embedded videos from youtube or Vimeo It’s a pretty cool site, and we know it’s going to help one you to start attracting more clients and growing your business! To enter, head to the latest post on @eyesofanomad Instagram. 1. Follow @eyesofanomad 2. Comment and tell us why you need a new website and tag a friend who deserves one too! If you win, we’ll help you set up the site, include free hosting for the next 5 years & 3 hours of one-on-one support with one of web dev instructors to help you customise your site and understand how to edit and maintain it. ———- Giveaway has closed, congratulations to the winners! @rachelhopleyphotography & @babybbites
What a year it’s been 😂 When we wrapped up our bootcamps in early March we never could have imagined that it would be almost 12 months before we could welcome the next cohort of students through our doors. While it was disappointing for us and our students to need to cancel the August & November bootcamps this situation has certainly led us all to a lot of reflection, and we’ve never been more grateful for the work we do and the community we have. This past few months we’ve been busy supporting our past students and as we look towards our 2021 bootcamps we’re pumped to help all our enrolled students make the most of this unexpected extra prep time — we’ll be providing them with bonus materials, additional online lessons and one-on-one support from our mentors so that even if they can’t make it to Bali until next year they can start building their skills and their career now! We’ve also made all 2021 enrollment a completely flexible so that you can move to another session if needed. We’re bringing some some exciting new projects to life over the next few months and can’t wait to share that with you soon. Would love to hear from you guys - how are you going right now?
What goes into building a website? For us it’s more than design, more than code. It’s sitting down with our clients and talking about their goals for the business, who their audience is and how they think. We spend just as much time understanding the marketing psychology and building a plan for the digital presence as we do actually writing custom code. This project is one of the biggest we’ve done and it’s been months in the making — custom build from the ground up, using Jekyll to make the blog load super fast, and a custom shopify checkout to handle sales. It’s more quicky and playful than anything we’ve built before, something that was so important to our clients and friends @mariefeandjakesnow. They wanted a website that captured the essence of everything they had built up over the years on their Instagram and brought it to the web. Thisismaja.com You should check it out, and if it inspires you to want to learn to code our 7 day free coding challenge is open for just a few more days... link in our bio. If you’re in need of a new website get in touch — depending on the scope of your project we can help you ourselves or recommend a talented alumni who can work to even start-up budgets. Now that we’re live, it’s time for a glass of champagne and maybe a nap.
Be the creator of your own reality and take charge of your life and your future. The idea behind our bootcamps is to provide our students with all the necessary skills needed in order to move forward with their careers, as well as equipping them with the skillsets and knowledge required to continue working on their goals and dreams once they have left the villa and go on with their journey.
Most people are surprised when we show them how much they can learn in only 10 days. Students walk away with a fully-build websites, and ready to kick start their new career as web developers. We said goodbye to our last group of incredible talented web dev students only two days ago but we are excited for social media bootcamp starting tomorrow.
We’re on day 8 with our February bootcamp. Students are currently working on their personal projects which they will be presenting on final day. Working from unconventional work spot such as luxury villa are one of the many perks that comes with living the #digitalnomadlife
“Oh shit. I can’t believe we built *that* in real code and it’s only day 3... I honestly couldn’t have even imagined that was possible a week ago”. Yesterday when @hellotinamay told our students that they had less than 3 hours to build a multi-page website for a hypothetical business there were a lot of skeptical blank stares. But the challenge was worth it and the joy on their faces as they presented their mini-projects was worth it! Can’t wait to see what they can build by day 10!
Over 2000 applications. 365,000 words. Countless inspiring stories. Reading your messages of how you were going to overcome the challenges facing you to #make2020myyear as part of your giveaway application touched our hearts. We knew that the 7 lucky people chosen to receive a full or partial scholarship would have a chance to learn life-changing skills and launch a new career, but choosing from the hundreds of you that we know would benefit from the opportunity was incredibly hard! So we’ve decided to launch 2 new mini-courses and give them for free to the first 1000 people from around the world to register. The first is a 7-day coding course covering the basics of HTML and CSS and building a mini-website, and the second is a 7 day Instagram course to make friends with the algorithm and get the most out of your social media this year. You’ll get daily video tutorials and practical activities to follow along with 🙌🏼 Link in our bio to register, and tag anyone below that could use a little gift this time of year! P.S. this photo was taken during a content creation trip to the Komodo Islands. For those of you attending our Social Media Bootcamp this year we’ll teach you how to land collaborations like this and travel for free!
“I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a conventional life... I tried, but it didn’t sit right with me. There was once a time where I was ticking all the societal boxes, I was content, but I wasn’t happy and I was restless. One day something clicked, ‘this is good for some people, but it’s not true to me’, so I changed it all, because I WANT chaos, I want fire and I want spontaneity. I like unpredictability and not knowing what’s next. It’s something I’ve grown to trust, because the reality is, nobody knows, and the idea that we should all live by one social notion is illusive. Every one of us is different. As each day passes I find myself wanting to detach from what we’re told we ‘should’ do evermore. I’m not being careless or childish by this - it might at times be messy, but it’s also magical and despite how it sounds, intentional. Of course there’s areas I still nurture stability, such as finance and relationships, but overall, fitting into boxes and comfort zones makes me uncomfortable... I choose to live a life I’m passionate about, one where I can be full enough to serve others. The chances of our existence is monumental, and I’m not taking that for granted! I want to run wild, and I want to empower, I want to see, experience and I want to impact. I want to hear people’s stories, live in other cultures, feel deeply and connect. I want to build, create, and be my own boss. I want to be humbled by huge landscapes, and get lost in neon lit bars on side streets with strangers who become friends. I want my life to spill and splash into places I’ll only briefly call home, because ‘home’ isn’t just one place for me anymore, ‘home’ is feelings and people... and fulfilment. This life is rich, in a way money could never buy - and for every time I get questions like ‘when will you get a real job’, ‘adult’ or ‘settle?’ that will always be my why. Perhaps one day, stability will come, but right now the less beaten path is the one I choose to navigate, and in 2020 I’ll be honouring that even more. ” - Our alumni, @Rachelbowler_
Last week we said farewell to our last group of inspiring students for the year! We are so damn proud of all of you and can’t wait to see you grow over the next few months and beyond! Only a few weeks after the courses have ended and we’ve already had messages from students landing their first paid clients — and every time it happens our team has a little@office dance party to celebrate your wins alongside you. In other news, it’s been a huge year for the Institute of Code and we are only just getting started! But we want to thank all our amazing students and staff for believing in our vision of changing the way education is delivered! We can’t wait to meet our next group of students in Feb 2020 (and there are still a few spots left if want to join us) 🙌🏼
