The Historic Colored Musicians Club 📍Located at 145 Broadway. Part of The Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor. 🔹 The building was originally built for shoemaker Charles Zifle around the turn of the century but has been the home of The Colored Musicians' Club of Buffalo since 1934. 🔹 Formed because the only musicians union in the city, Local 43, wouldn't accept African American musicians, so Buffalo Local 533 formed in 1917. 🔹 The Club was chartered in 1935, separate from Local 533, to foster creativity, community, and to enhance the professional and economic status of its members. (See the full mission statement at https://www.cmctheclub.com/club-history) 🔹 Well-known artists would stop by the CMC - some were lucky enough to see Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and more. 🔹Today the first-floor functions as an interactive Jazz Museum and the second floor is used for performances, rehearsal and recording space, and event rentals. Be sure to check out the museum when it is open again! #explorebuffalo #wny #buffalony

Blessed Trinity RC Church (Dedicated 1928) is unlike anything else in the city. Like all fine art, you have to step back and take it in. Give yourself the opportunity to notice the details and decisions made by the artist/architects. Note the richness of the terra cotta work, the infusion of color and texture, the long honored medieval technique of hand-molded bricks. Chester Oakley and Albert Schallmo clearly designed the church to be appreciated and we know the community and congregation does a wonderful job of that. Go see it in person for yourself along Leroy Avenue! Interested in more of the history? We wrote an article about this building for Buffalo Rising back in April.
