  • REPEAT AFTER US: Accomplishments List…it’s time to write yours. For a few years now, @boxcarmuse has made it a practice to write as well as encourage women to write one. And we do NOT mean a resume. We mean, a simple list— quickly jotting down things YOU consider accomplishments. But why? Research shows your brain is SO much more likely to attach to negative feedback or disappointments. Our friend @wholelifehealthmd was interviewed for a podcast on negative thought and reminded us that it can be thought of us “Velcro” where as positive thought can be thought of as as “Teflon.” The comparison being that the negative thought STICKS hardcore like scrambled egg guts to a pan when you don’t use butter or oil, and the positive interaction washes away easily with one swipe. Someone says you seem tired. One hour later, a stranger says you have great energy…which do you immediately start ruminating over? It’s probably a trip to the bathroom to stare at your dark circles, a conversation about how you haven’t been able to sleep well because of some other bad habit you are beating yourself up over. And the great energy thing? Who gives AF? YOU LOOK TIRED!!! We found this article this morning (link in bio!) and it reaffirmed the practice we try to make regular. Research shows that keeping that list, even if no one else reads it (though we challenge you to get vulnerable and send it to a trusted friend or family member!) actually helps you to feel better. So what are you waiting for? Spend 10 minutes trying to remember some of your recent good moves—and don’t be afraid to list the mundane among them…showering and making the bed is just as major as landing a new job! If you are feeling extra brave, post one recent accomplishment you feel proud of in the comments below. We’ll start and also, we want to celebrate with yours! #womenhelpingwomen #bebrave #getvulnerable #complimentyourself #takeacompliment #giveacompliment

  • Thank you for this gem 💎 of wisdom @imjessweiner ... this is magically brilliant. We talk about the idea of asking people what they do often and how it can truly put people on the spot. Especially if someone is in a temporary place of discomfort or transition about what they “do.” Thank you for re-framing the question in such a respectful and compassionate way. What do you value? For us it’s: trust, compassion, courage, ❤️ heart, creativity, kindness etc etc etc. 💓💓💓💓💓

  • #requiredreading ... the world would be a much better place if every person on earth 🌎 read this book. A memoir by #tanehisicoates , #betweentheworldandme is written in the form of a letter to his son about what it is like to be a Black Person in a racist America. It is painfully emotional to read the true accounts from his own life as they relate to modern history. This book is life changing for all. We hope you will read or re-read it as soon as you are able!! #dismantlewhitesupremacy #bethechangeyouwanttosee

  • WOMEN: How are your feelings? Are they fragile? Are you suffering? Are you hanging in there? These past two weeks have dredged up loads of emotions for women and for many of us, loads of first time realizations of assault and abuse. Have you or a friend of family member decided to come forward recently? Has the swell of courageous women’s #metoo stories inspired you to take comfort in your sisters…to come out with your stories, even ones that happened long ago? Two years ago, we hosted one of our most memorable sessions lead by a team of survivors, @iambriannamichelle and Holly Eve. We brought them together because they often posted messages teaching women how to harness their power after abuse and assault and we knew the importance of sharing stories, hearing them and seeing first hand how to handle such big, private truths. Holly found that #kravmaga was a physical way in which to use her body in an empowered way after assault. And so @burbankkravmaga lead a how-to beginners session for us that was motivating, inspiring and empowering. And Brianna started a foundation, @voicesbeyondassault that encourages women to use their voices. Hearing firsthand stories of women’s suffering was uncomfortable, it was emotional, it was painful, but then came the rising (thank you @glennondoyle for the language!!). We went outside and beat the $hit out of the punching bags and the air and we felt so strong. VBA secured their 501(c)(3) foundation just last week! What better way to harness your power during such a difficult, emotional time than to donate your time or resources to a grass roots foundation that provides support and services for women whose voices until now, had been muted? If you are enraged, depressed and spiraling into feelings of helplessness, we encourage you to put your time and money where your mouth is today—link in bio. Here’s a video of our crew living our meaningful truths, supporting each other, and using our bodies in a powerful way. #girlpower #ittakesavillage #womensupportingwomen #believesurvivors #trustwomen

  • You know that feeling—that instinct to put on sunglasses when your throat tightens up during an emotional song in public? The feeling of tender exposure after telling someone you love them for the first time? The panic you feel when some other person tells you how beautiful they think you are? That feeling is called vulnerability. And newsflash: VULNERABILITY IS COOL! It just freaking IS. And not just because the brilliant Brené Brown (who we admire so deeply!) says so. The human condition relies on trust and connection. And when women embrace the power of their vulnerability, we instantly connect on a deeper level with other humans, specifically other women. We’ve been reflecting a lot over the past few weeks about what it means to be courageously vulnerable. And although crying isn’t always a product of tapping into vulnerability, it’s the one way to outwardly show others your deepest feelings. Have you ever seen someone choke up or full-on sob in public and NOT gotten choked up yourself? Tears can be a chain reaction sort of thing for us humans (especially the empaths!). Just yesterday when I was talking with my family about a friend’s struggle after she was bravely vulnerable in front of me for the first time, my five year old daughter said, “Are you going to cry Mommy? Because I know that shaky voice.” And I SO appreciated her little show of support. At such a young age, with only a few words, she let me know that she was expecting me to cry and that it would be OK—that she would be there waiting with a hug or a back rub. My husband got choked up after accompanying a formerly detained father to his ICE check-in when he saw that he kept his daughter’s “star student” homework in the same envelope with his most important papers. Ariel and I cried happy tears after seeing newly hatched goslings hunt for snacks with their mothers. boxcar+muse wants to commend you on allowing yourself to be vulnerable. The courage it takes to do so is immense. And it’s a beautiful thing. We hope you’ll tap into this super power and notice how quickly it helps you connect with others. —E #vulnerabilityiscool #womenhelpingwomen #itsoktouglycry
