44 years ago, Hip Hop was born. DJs around the country were making mixtapes in their living rooms, mastering scratches and perfecting The Needle Drop. Over the years, our Music Historian has sat down with some of the most notable DJs in the business, including DJ GrandWizard Theodore, DJ Grand Master Caz, DJ Grand Mixer DXT, DJ Afrika Bombaataa, DJ Jazzy Joyce and DJ Johnny Juice. The Music History Project podcast has compiled some of these interviews into a two-part series on the history of DJs and the Birth of Turntablism – the first episode releases Thursday, August 17. Subscribe on iTunes to hear these unique, invaluable perspectives from the folks who had a hand in creating the sounds and techniques synonymous with Hip Hop and DJs. In this clip, DJ GrandWizard Theodore explains how he accidentally invented the famous Scratch. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-music-history-project/id1243807880?mt=2. #thebirthofhiphop #birthofhiphop #happybirthdayhiphop #googledoodle #records

Anyone else want a jam room stocked with some gear as colorful and awesome as these ones from the #SummerNAMM Show?
The performances at #SummerNAMM were some for the books! The American Eagle Awards brought Crystal Gayle, Harry Shearer, and Patti Smith together on stage for a moving performance of Smith’s “People Have the Power”; Melinda Doolittle rocked the house at the Top 100 Dealer Awards; and the legendary Charley Pride treated the crowd to a performance of some of his hit songs as well as music from his new album, “Music in My Heart”. Did you catch these talented musicians (or one of the many others!) at the Show?
Anyone else wishing they were back at #SummerNAMM, trying out new gear? #ThrowbackThursday #TBT
