Steep slopes are ubiquitous in Central Washington and becoming more prevalent in our projects. This topography is a critical part of what defines our area and a reason we love living, working, and playing here. It also creates building challenges. Designing with the slope rather than against it is one way we make our work distinctively "Central Washington". . This garage, on the Lake Chelan shoreline, approaches the slope in a minimally invasive manner only touching the ground with two columns. This way we can leave much of the footprint undisturbed while still getting the height for killer views and necessary square footage. Floating over the site, the garage also invites one to find shelter underneath, making the ground plane a covered space for gathering. .
