• On May 11 around 8:15pm an elderly male was at a bus stop in the area of North Broadway & Bishops Rd when he was attacked by a 34 year old male suspect, who attempted to strangle him, then punched him two times. The suspect fled, but was detained by the Chinatown Business Improvement District (BID) security guards. LAPD Central Division officers quickly responded to the scene, ensured the victim received medical attention, and took custody of the suspect.

Central Area Detectives assumed investigative responsibility, and the District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with one count of 368 (B) (1) PC - Elder Abuse.

Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

This incident highlights two important points:

Angelenos will not standby idly and watch others be victimized, and partnerships between the police and the community helps keep our streets safer for everyone.
