  • My IG takeover is coming to an end, but I invited anyone who would like to come follow me, @ian.michael.peoples .

I want to encourage any of you young men out there who are discerning a vocation to the Jesuits. This is a beautiful life. I give thanks every day for this vocation. It’s given me and continues to give me more than I could ever have imagined. If you feel the call, reach out to a vocation promoter! We can help you connect with one.

Above are some pictures from different periods and experiences of my life as a Jesuit thus far. (1) My vow class after the Mass in which we professed poverty, chastity, and obedience.

 (2) Not long after I took vows, I became godfather to my niece. My friend @jpaynesj baptized her. Hopefully, some day I get to preside at her wedding.

 (3) A group of guys at my First Studies community participated in dodgeball tournament. We only won one game but we played in style.

(4) I ran my first half marathon in First Studies. This life provides constant opportunities for growth.

(5) I always enjoy getting back together with my vow class (minus one in this photo). Jesuit life takes us to different and far off places, so it’s always a gift to unite again.

 (6) Every holiday in First Studies, we have Mass, brunch, then played some soccer before evening celebrations. My dad, visiting during Easter, played with us a couple times.

 (7) We have so many men in formation, we all don’t even fit into the IG frame!

 (8) We are blessed with opportunities for study, always with an eye to putting our gifts to the good of the apostolate.

 (9) One of the most transformative experiences I’ve had as a Jesuit is spending a couple months in the interior of Guyana, in the Amazon. These are some of the sisters we stayed with during that time. Most of our work was simple catechesis and accompanying the people.

(10) And finally the greatest gift of this life, and the only reason anyone should ever choose to live it, is to bring Jesus to others. I led communion services at a nursing home in the Bronx.

My prayer for all of you, Jesuit vocation or not, is that you recognize Jesus walking with you this day and every day. God bless y’all

  • Snapshots of my work in Belize:

(1) My main apostolate here is working as a prison chaplain at a Juvenile detention center. For Christmas, we put on a Nativity play. Our costumes were mostly blankets and sheets. I was surprised at how much the guys enjoyed it.

(2) Part of my work has become helping run live streamed Masses. Here I am helping with the Garifuna Settlement Day Mass on November 19th. That’s Bishop Nicasio is a Garifuna man himself. Notice the liturgical vestments: they’re to celebrate the Garifuna people.

(3) I’m a campus minister at St. John’s College High School. Pictures here is our campus chapel. The Belize sunsets are typically beautiful, casting shades of red, orange, yellow, pink and purple across the sky.

  • Hi! My name is Ian Peoples (@ian.michael.peoples ). I’m a Jesuit regent working as a campus minister and prison chaplain in Belize City. I’m taking over the BeaJesuit IG for the next week. I’ll be sharing pictures and stories from the past few years and from the present.

The photo above is from one of the most important days in my life: the day I professed vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience to Jesus Christ in the Eucharist (that’s who I’m looking at in the photo).

Feel free to send messages and let’s get a conversation going! Thanks for walking with me this week.

  • Pilgrims. That’s what we are. Always looking for God along the way. He points out the way. The way to hope, faith, and love.

Advent pilgrims. It’s what we are. Advent is a journey to renewed hope. And it takes effort. It takes effort to look for hope, faith, and love. It takes discernment. It takes a community.

But most of all it takes God. He leads and shows us hope. Through a tiny infant. What a miracle. That is what we need to prepare for. Not presents, parties, or banquets. But for Christ. And if prepped well; God will give abundant grace to you this Christmas.

This is the end of my take-over, but just the beginning of the third week of Advent for us. And if your journey is calling you to consider the Jesuits; know that it is a joy to journey with this Least Society. The adventures are endless; and the graces even more so.

Till our paths cross again, in sun, rain, or snow...
Blessings and prayers!
Oliver :)

  • Take a stand. We are all called to build the #KingdomodGod Some give their resources. Some are called to give their time and energy. Some are called to give their very lives to the Gospel. That’s Jesuit. What’s your call?

We #standwithstan. A Jesuit detained for standing up for others, wrongfully detained.
